My partner discovered this piece today. We believe it is Topaz, rock crystal or some freak of nature. This piece is one of the strangest things either of us have ever seen. Looks like wax and feels like velvet.

Completely translucent-transparent.

The apparent "banding" are not bands of color but look like layers of transparency if that makes any sense.

2018 ct.!

I looks like individual crystal growth joining in the middle. I have several pieces similar to it. Mine are calcite or quartz crystals which had they not grown together would be druzy. I would take it to an expert though just to make sure. Good luck.

It's going to a gemologist this week. 8-)

Like to know the results. I have found some almost like yours. Took some to gemologist and confirmed Topaz. Mine was translucent as light will shine through them. I think transparent is when you can see another object through them. Good luck.

Will know tomorrow. We have an appointment to have some things identified and the blue stuff I have will be tested with a machine.

Yes, my partner found out that it is Carnelian Agate and Quartz. A neat find none-the-less!

Yup :) That's an agate ;) A very nice one if you can polish it out.
