I agree, but I can find them as small as 3 1/2 ". Which looks to be about the size of yours? For miniture horses. It's what I thought of first so I don't know other wise. Here's a site with one 3 1/2 "'s And seen plenty others when looking for pony jointed mouth bits.May be someone else has a better Idea I've not thought of.

Not to rain on the miniature horse parade, but it looks like a Gucci Handbag strap attachment. Gucci has been using horse bits for straps and decoration since around the 1950's. Neat find, Breezie View attachment 631695GucciHandbag2.jpg

Gucci has used metal horse bits in various configurations on shoes (for men & women) hand bags, key chains, watch fobs, jewelry, bracelets, etc. It could have easily been on a man's shoe as a ladies bag.

As far as the miniature horse bits (any horse/mule bits) are concerned, I was under the impression they were made of steel, stainless steel, copper and vulcanized rubber. Your bit has been plated/coated with gold and some of it is flaking off. A useable bit for a horse wouldn't be coated like yours.

I realize it's not as exciting to find part of a shoe or handbag, and certainly not as interesting as a vintage horse bit, but if it's Gucci, it's worth more money! LOL :icon_thumleft: Breezie

Did gucci gold plate them? the gold areas look surprisingly untarnished...i little dirty. but after a good vinegar clean, it shines nice. how would i be able to tell if somethings gold plated without any identifying marks?
