This automobile grille - it's from a 1950 Pontiac

Can anyone identify this automobile grille?

post_car_grille.jpg

I am looking for the make and model of the automobile.

It might be a 1950's American car but I can not find one to match.

:)

Re: Can anyone identify this automobile grille?

I looked at pictures of 1950's Ford Coupes but the circle on my grille is smaller and has the "V" struts.

I flipped the image over to show the struts.

Re: Can anyone identify this automobile grille - 1950 Pontiac

How soon we forget. My, oh my, I used to watch those go up and down the highway in front of my grandma's place. Just can't remember all the designs anymore. How frail is ... my ... memory. Oh well! :dontknow: ???

Re: Can anyone identify this automobile grille - 1950 Pontiac

Yay! Solved.

I was pretty sure we were talking 1950 - but it is a tad difficult to discern a whole vehicle from pieces.

Gosh - you are right - there was a time I could identify each and every car that went down the road, what engine it came with, etc.

Now, sometimes I cannot tell a Cadillac. (remember that year or 2 when they shrunk the Cadillac and it didn't look like a Cadillac anymore? Glad they stopped that!

Noodle,

At least they know us geezers are the biggest buying public (for right now, anyway). The mustang almost looks like a mustang, they are making a Chevy that looks a little like an older Camaro, etc) - and they are playing our music - albeit, screwed up - in elevators!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Thank you for your help identifying the automobile grille.

The metal remains were hauled away sometime in 2011.

I know this is an old post and I found it while looking for parts for my 1950 Pontiac project car. But, I have to clarify the identity. It is a 1951 Pontiac grille. Here's a picture of my 50. The second picture is a 51.

Thank you for all your help with this identification over the last ten years.

Here are two more photographs of the automobile parts taken at the same time:

Hopefully someone recognized the parts and that they are now riding around on someone's car.

My guess is they all came from the same car. The door label is an oil change sticker from a Shell station.

A little bondo and a coat of paint and that Pontiac could hit the wide open road! Woohoo!

A photograph taken on a highway in 1953:

Is the car in the lower right a 1950 or 1951 Pontiac?

I don't think you're going to find a definite answer to your post for a couple of reasons.

You show a pile of old parts that are now gone. I guarantee there were parts numbers and clues in that pile that would hold the answer. You can see the chrome that came down the hood, tail light on a fender, a door with handles intact. Yet all you have is a couple pictures. You got pics and no numbers. Terrible sleuthing.

I searched lots of pictures of 1950 and 1951 Pontiacs. Most 1950's have the old style grill. But there were enough to convince me there were original 1950's with the newer style grill, also. How do you expect anyone to identify your find if it is gone, we have zero parts numbers to go by, and the 1950's show examples with both grills ?

Here's an example:
Bought from original owner and stored in a garage its whole life.
A 1950 with the newer grill.
