WOW! WHAT A COIN!!! :BangHead: UPDATED PICS BELOW.

It's already shown me how it can find things, separate signals, depth, versatility, etc. etc.
Today it showed me just how small an object it can "see". :)

I finally went out for my official "Beginning of Spring" hunt. (I know, I know...)

Anyway, when the very first plug looks like this:

2016 (156).jpg
2016 (157).jpg
It gets easy to assume that maybe it's gonna be a
good day. ;)

2016 (154).jpg2016 (155).jpg

And....it was. :)

2016 (158).jpg

A bit of a strange day as well. When one pulls
up a plug and sees just one more clad quarter.
They tend to assume.

2016 (160).jpg

I mean, even after a simple wash, would anyone think
otherwise? :icon_scratch:

But, see the silver? That's because I was
positive it was just another clad and I was checking the
dates of all the clad to see what time frame was there.
I have no qualms about rubbing clad coins in the field.
The date information is important when hunting.
Who knew?

Here's the rest:

2016 (170).jpg
Just about all those pennies are between 1961 and 1975.
2016 (169).jpg
2 whole wheat toasts
2016 (168).jpg
2016 (167).jpg

This is what impressed me today. Look
at how TINY those pieces are!!

2016 (166).jpg2016 (165).jpg

It's says "FLAVOR" across the middle. :dontknow:

2016 (164).jpg

Interesting token.

2016 (163).jpg
2016 (162).jpg

Blingie's gonna break his neck someday. ;)

2016 (161).jpg

Ya know, I think Fishy has more on the ball
then I give him credit for, he's looking at the
silver quarter. ;)

All in all a very nice day and walk.

Thanks for peeking!

Ok, remember Fishy's quarter?

This is what I started with:

2016 (171).jpg2016 (160).jpg

So, I began to see about cleaning this up a bit and just tried some of the easiest methods.
I used aluminum foil/boiling water/baking soda
That had almost no effect!
So, I tried baking soda and water paste. Nothing!
So, I said, ok, you just aren't worth all this effort!! You '64-d quarter!!
Next I broke out the vinegar, the pumice infused hand cleaner, wd40, simple green, comet cleanser!!
I even soaked the thing in TARNEX !!!!

N O T H I N G !!! (Well, hardly nothing, still looked like a clad)

I said, well I'd had enough of this and broke out the SOS steel wool pads, after about 10 minutes, I just BEGAN
to see it looking a bit silverish!

So I dropped it in my Ultra Sonic, Muriatic Acid, Electrolysis, microwave cooker. Still looked crappy!!!

Finally, I broke out my high speed Dremel tool with a wire brush on it and went over the bad spots.

That's how I got it to this point!

Now, I know this is all pretty far fetched but in all seriousness, I have NEVER encountered a silver coin
like this one! I don't know what it had on it but it must've been akin to kryptonite!

This particular 1964-d *SILVER* quarter only had this much attention shown to it when whomever coated the
thing in whatever they used!!!! I worked on this for better than 4 hours!!! Counting the attempts at soaking in various different solutions. If you look at the close ups you can STILL see remnants of what I still can't get off!!

Just thought I'd update this thread with this information about a most incredible coin!

Thanks for peeking, again!
Whew!

Nicely done,,
That quarter sure looked like clad
1963 is definitely a "Silver Date "
Congrats on a Super Hunt.

I have had an ATP for 2 years, it's a fantastic machine for the price and it's stood.up to some abuse!

Well you did a darn good job of freeing it from what ever encased it! And there's your 1963 silver quarter!
That was a lot of work! Did the coated surface feel slightly rough before cleaning?
I've never seen anything that clingy on a silver coin.
Do you think it was a chemical, or paint type coating?
Almost looks baked or burnt on.

It never looked or felt like there was an intentional coating. I'm thinking that maybe it had started to be plated? I mean, whatever it was seemed to be a few molecules deep in the silver. To date, this is the weirdest silver coin I've found in almost half a century of looking! :dontknow:

Thanks!

It may remain one of those - forever myesterirs!

Congratz on a great hunt! You had a good assortment of stuff including silver coins and jewelry. Very nice!

Nice quarter! That ATP is a solid machine! I keep mine in the trunk at all times, and still pull it out when the CTX angers me![emoji35]
