***Things that go "BEEP" in the woods***
I went to my usual farm spot at lunch today, but rather than detect the lawn areas that I have beat to death all summer, I took to the woods. Snakes or no snakes, Iβm going in!!!
I started working an area between a gravel drive in back of the house, and a small creek. The good thing about the woods is the soil is super soft. The bad thing is there are a bunch of roots to dig around, and tons of branches and trees to detect around. Iβve become very good at flipping tree branches out of the way with my Tesoro.
Within about 15 minutes I had my first signal. At about 6β deep, I thought I had another shotgun shell head, but out popped an old button with shank still intact. I love finding old buttons, so this made my day. About 10 minutes later, and within approx. 20 feet of the first, I got a very loud signal. I thought it would be a plow tip, but instead at only about 4β deep, out came a round object with some gold tint on it. I about soiled myself as it was the size of a coin yet thicker than any coin I was used to finding. After a little spit on my towel, and a slight field cleaning, I noticed a flower on the front. I had another button. I was hoping for an old coin, but this is one cool button, so Iβm happy.
Button #1 - 18cm, flat front. A back mark of: "Treble Gilt- Stand Colour"
Button #2 β 21cm, flower front with design around the edge. A back mark of: "Benedict Burnham - Extra".
Some of you may recall this farm property is just about 194 acres. Including the yards around the house, I think Iβve detected only about 3-4 acres all together. Hopefully I will run across some more old coins on the other 190 acres. There may not be as many signals out in the woods, but when I do get a signal, I have a pretty good shot at it being a keeper.
Thanks for looking,
MM
