yep 13.... its in pretty bad shape... but thats ok.... i will be going back!!!!!!!!

around here that would be pretty good shape! you can actually see a clear date on it. something about the soil around here just destroys copper after a while. :'( ive dug 7 so far and they are all twice as bad as that one. they are still fun to find though! great digs!

Nice I love digging up those large cents! Congrats on your oldest coin!

When you find your next one try throwing it in some olive oil for a few months I think you will be a lot more pleased with the results. Peroxide always seems like a harsh treatment to me,it took a 100 and some odd years for that stuff to get on there it may take months or longer to get it back off.

I will definitely try that if/when I do find another,,, from looking it the before and after I don't think i damaged it too much you can still see all the same detail and you can see where all the corroded spots where just full of dirt. i think the peroxide treatment does have its place though with a better coin, I plan on experimenting with it.

been researching the area where i found this and found out it was an infantry camp during the War of 1812 and during the Civil War.

I'm having a hard time concentrating on my weekend chores, I want to go back ;D
I think when you find the next 1 you just might faint! If you want, I will volunteer to go with you so I can drag you out of the woods and call for help. Im in Selden ;D ;D ;D ;D Great coin Ralph! Congratulations!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
