Thing I found on empty lot

OK it took a while but I got the best photo I could of this thing, any ideas what it could be? There was more of the thin wire stuff that is wound around the one post in the dirt. The thing in the other photo was found in the same hole, sorry I couldn't get a better photo of it, it is hard to tell but on the top there was a strip of material nailed to it, it kinda looks like the stuff those old potato sacks were made from, it fell apart as soon as I touched it, there are also screws in the top right and bottom left corners, if you look at the back it looks like it was attached to something by the screws but got broken off.

Thank you, I love those little buggers, no they are not into detecting yet, they would rather play with their friends and their toys. They do like to dig but only if they can get dirty.
