Thing I found on empty lot

OK it took a while but I got the best photo I could of this thing, any ideas what it could be? There was more of the thin wire stuff that is wound around the one post in the dirt. The thing in the other photo was found in the same hole, sorry I couldn't get a better photo of it, it is hard to tell but on the top there was a strip of material nailed to it, it kinda looks like the stuff those old potato sacks were made from, it fell apart as soon as I touched it, there are also screws in the top right and bottom left corners, if you look at the back it looks like it was attached to something by the screws but got broken off.

Just off the top of my head I'd say the top picture is some kind of inductive electrical device, especially of the wire is copper.

Boojagirl,

From your photos the best guess I can make is ...
It looks like a bobbin assembly from a sewing machine of some kind.

Could be electrical
I can't say...

well if that is wire....... wire wrapped around a metal post like that will create a magnet when electricity is applied

is the post in the middle of the wire metal or non-metalic?

my initial thoughts are a doorbell part

The picture is kind of blurry, but it resembles a homemade tattoo gun. I worked at the Oklahoma State Pen for 2 years (yes WORKED there, lol), and confiscated a lot of the tat guns. Thats just the first thing I thought of when I looked at the pic.

I was thinking on the same line that OLD DOG was....being part of a sewing machine where the thread sits on top or under the machine where the bobbin sits....but if it has wire wrapped around it...well, now I have no idea ??? ??? ???

Very interesting....go dig some more....maybe there is another piece out there?

Happy Hunting,
Annmarie

PS....you mentioned a piece of material attached to it...could it be from an industrial sewing machine? I'm trying to figure out though...what would you sew with wire???

How thick would you say the wire is compared to thread?

I find it amazing what those guys can dream up with all that spare time.

the potato sack stuff kind throws me off a bit,, you mean burlap?

yes I mean burlap and the wire around the post is thin like thread.

Tried doing some research for Industrial Sewing Machine Parts...but they don't post pics or want you to enter the part number and such....

Aren't you the same person who found that HUNTING TAG for Nahum Moody in your yard?

I would go to the courthouse and do a land search on your property. It will take some time...I know...I did it for my house!! Going through deed after deed!! Oh Vey...actually, I'm still doing it....I got to the second owner of this house...have to get the first owners name and then I should get the name of the construction company/builders who built this house and then find out who they bought this farm land from....so I still have a bit of research to do...

But I would do a land search on your property....before the house was built. Could have been farm land, most likely. Maybe there was a business nearby. You can probably check with your local historical society and/or your local library (genealogy dept).

You are finding some interesting items in your yard!! There's more to be found! GOOD LUCK!
Annmarie

PS: found this...I can't really tell from the pic...but does it look like your part came from something like this photo on this link: http://www.daybag.com/industrial/additional.html#bagCloser

Is the part of the thingy with the copper wire that you are holding an empty (fired) center fire rifle shell or cartridge. If so it must be some improvised electrical experiment.

I honestly don't know, I have never fired a gun so I don't know what an empty center fire rifle shell looks like.

Sorry ,Boojagirl, I should have been more specific with my question. An empty rifle cartridge looks like one of these. I that is similiar to the one in your picture it would explain the rest of my question. Mostly I was thinking the item was hand made for some purpose. P.S. Isn't booja minnesotan for a stew?

I don't know if it is Minnesotan for stew or not, Booja is the name of my cat, the J in Booja sounds like the J in the name Jacque like in Jacque Coustou and the A sounds like the a in always.

SWR got me thinking.

I have been remodeling this house I'm in so I went and took the old doorbell apart and looked at the mechanism.

Sure enough that solenoid looks pretty close to the thing you have pictured.
Granted you would have to beat it up pretty bad to achieve what you have but that is it.

Now to hide the evidence before my wife sees.......

LOL
