Hey all!
I was metal detecting earlier (what better way to lighten up quarantine?) and dug up three of these small, copper objects in the same hole. They remind me of some sort of suspender clip, although I haven't seen anything like them before. Each has a small trim design and the word "STERLING" on the top, which is strange because they are definitely some sort of copper alloy. When cleaning them I didn't see any signs of silver plating, although that might have worn off. There are also some bits of old cloth or leather stuck to the back of each, so they were probably attached to something that decomposed. I found them at a colonial site that has history up until the present day. Anyone have a guess about their purpose or age? Thanks and happy hunting!
