Sorry for the lousy pic, I used my phone

Walked into my credit union to dump $500 in dimes using the coin counter in lobby.

Started dumping, checked the reject tray, Whoa!!!!! I can't believe my eyes!!!!

It is the size of a dime, but heavier. I look closely, it has all the right markings of a

1909 US 2.5 dollar gold coin (quarter eagle)!!!!!!!

I took it home, weighed it, measured its diameter, and compared it to the picture and description in the Red Book. Everything matched exactly.

4.18 gm of 90% Gold!!

Bullion value is $207 today, the pic is lousy but I believe the grade is VG to Fine.

Maybe I should retire from CRHing, I'll never equal this one.

I voted banner. If you look at the "banner" across the top there is already a 2.50 gold piece found while metal dectecting. CONGRATS. I encourage everyone else to vote banner as well.

Just when I think I've seen everything....simply fantastic! The original owner probably thought it was some foreign throwaway or funny money.

At this rate, someone will find a $20 St Gauden's double eagle in a CoinStar next week!

Incredible find! I'm green with envy. I keep checking those stupid Coinstar machines too. I've only gotten one lonely silver dime though, this takes the cake
