Sorry for the lousy pic, I used my phone

Walked into my credit union to dump $500 in dimes using the coin counter in lobby.

Started dumping, checked the reject tray, Whoa!!!!! I can't believe my eyes!!!!

It is the size of a dime, but heavier. I look closely, it has all the right markings of a

1909 US 2.5 dollar gold coin (quarter eagle)!!!!!!!

I took it home, weighed it, measured its diameter, and compared it to the picture and description in the Red Book. Everything matched exactly.

4.18 gm of 90% Gold!!

Bullion value is $207 today, the pic is lousy but I believe the grade is VG to Fine.

Maybe I should retire from CRHing, I'll never equal this one.

Yes, such coins generally sell for $230-250 on eBay.

All US gold has absurd premiums on it, though less so now that gold is going higher.

APMEX sells cleaned examples for $275, while extra fine examples start at $330.

This coin looks like gold, is really old and looks American. Checks denomination, "Hmmm... a Quarter Eagle, what a quarter is 25 cents not $2.50. This must be some fake coin passing as a quarter" Throws it back in reject tray. Seriously though, congrats!

get a better photo The odds of this method of finding gold is higher than Metal detecting. Hey I believe a better photo would get some banner votes.
