Well the day started with rain, but I was bound and determined to hit the site again. Man I was soaked when I got home! :D I hit the old road to the bridge, of course I had to dig the rusty rectangular piece first, start the pouch out heavy. Not too trashy, so I was happy there. Ventured off the beaten path into the lower part of the field and almost lost my sneakers in the mud. :-\ So off to the bridge, just about there and remembered Gypsy saying three trees in a circle...... so I quickly ran around those, BIG mistake, you should have seen me trying to get that looped up thing out of the ground! :D

The ground was real wet, so the signals were good, and deep. Dug a beer can at 10", how the heck did that get down that far? The little I shaped item I have seen before? Nothing there but nip bottles, from the 60's some tin, pretty clean. I did find one long rusty item, but when I had dug over two feet in length, I decided to leave it for another day.

The disc, is copper and is 50 mm, or 2" I've been cleaning it and swear there is something written on it, but who knows.

So any advice on what I "should" be doing would be greatly appreciated. There used to be an old MFG co, a post office and general store, an old school house there. Awful big site, but I am determined to keep at it.

Here is a picture of the double axe cleaned up from last week. It has some letters on it K then underneath WARRAN??? may have been more letters. Oh of course I found another splitting wedge. :D

That little round tin (upper left) looks like the thingy to put in fish bait, creates bubbles to keep minnows alive. I dont know if they still make them. What does it say on it?

I would like to see the pic of compass.

You are testing my memory here......says Place in but?????? Can't make out the rest of the word. (man that sounds wrong :P) Open on side. Lots more to it, I wasn't able to get all the crud off of it, I couldn't make out a word whe I found it.

I'll get the link to day ones finds for you. The compass was crushed some but the glass was still there.

Thanks Bridge!

Nice try CG. Keep at it. Beautiful spot you have there.
I really like that copper divers helmet you found above the axe. ;D
Congrats,
MM

Thanks MM! Hubby loves his Nautical "stuff" not junk. The large one was from his Grandfathers estate. I found the little one and thought it would be a nice touch, so I bought it for an early B'day present.

The comments and advice above is good.

That word on the axe head (WARRAN _ _ _) is probably "WARRANTED"

Buckles

CG,

A couple things you may want to try at this site. First, I would get some hip waders and try detecting that stream. You maybe surprised what you will find. Next, I looked at your other post and saw that trail and all I could think of is a path load full of relics. I have read numerous times of detectorist finding these trails and detecting them. They would find coins, relics, cvil war artifacts, etc. This is a place by the looks of it, I would take my time detecting. It just says treasure to me. You should also see if there is a dump some where too! Keep us in touch. Good luck!

Kim,
Go to the left side of the road, just before the bridge, say 20 ft. and sing "now that's alright momma". That will put you on to some good finds.

Yes, Axes were usually warranted against breaks due to flaws in the steel but not sound breaks. The steel in all axes, in order to carry a good edge, must be of a high temper, and for this reason a good axe is more likely to break than a poor one. Usually warranteed for 30 days. (from town-country OLD TOOLS by Jack Wood)

I cant find your axe pattern exactly but it resembles a Pennsylvania or Western/Lippincott the closest match.

I "almost" have a confession to make about those letters. :D I did think Warranty ('cuz I sell them.) Not Warranted. That makes sense, I've heard of different grades of steel. Geeeeze only for 30 DAYS, we best be buying the extended plan!

I could'nt find an exact match either. The hubby says it has to be old, the standard modern handle doesn't quite fit. He pounded that handle on, then had to try and get it back off. It took 3 men and a baby, but he got it. He had to chissle the handle down some, then pound some more. Sweet tool now?

Well friend, hip waders are OUT of the question. I don't swim well, the current is pretty strong, and it heads right into the real river. :o

Now the trail.......it was a toss up between the bridge and the trail. The bridge won. :) But...someone sugested taking the ariel view tour. :P Duh! I found a field above the road. Now I am thinking that was the road to and from the Mfg co and the office? Hmmmmm. I guess I'll hit the road and the field this weekend, hard. Maybe the bridge again on Sunday? Wish me luck!

Thanks folks!

Warranted Government issue :icon_scratch: Don't mind me asking you detector don't look familiar what brand is it? :icon_study:

I use windows live, I think it's a better, closer view than google. Sorry google. I like to fly, but they go to fast and you can't zoom in as well. :D

aha! Sounds good...and how do I go about using the windows live sis? I just half way got the hang of google earth! lol

Hmmm, there is a K above the WARRAN, maybe an O after the K? Government issue? You think?

It's just a Discovery 1100, my first machine, and a good friend. :) I have an Ace 250, but with wet soil forget the Ace. I would have ended up chucking it into the river, sorry Ace users. It hits hard with wet soil, I would have dug nothing all day. If the 1100 says there something there it's there. The Ace....I spend more tme looking for nothing. Maybe it's me, but I think the settings got all messed up and I may need to reset it. Dan uses the Ace (prefers my friend), gets a signal, digs to china, I run the 1100 over the hole, nothing. Dan is kinda wound up about going with me to this site, we'll give it another whirl, or send her back for re-tuning. To tell you the truth? That Ace will never ride alone, I'll always have the 1100 for a back up. :)

I own an Ace and have the same problem, mostly with tin foil. It will pick up the tiniest piece of tinfoil or canslaw...very aggravating. >:( Sometimes its so tiny it cant be found. I had to buy a pinpointer. Tired of digging to China. It is however a dime blaster!

I believe the Axe says WARRANTED (against defects in the steel). I have seen it before on old axeheads. I also found it in the book. :icon_study:

Nice finds Kim... there's gotta be other stuff there... keep digging... you'll find it !
