I think you have discovered North and South Americas :headbang:
Part of Our World :hello2:
It looks like it's Copper, which I think will help age it.
If I have to take a WAG I will say it's the front of a 1940-1950's button.

Looks like the face of a largish badge/ pin for something or other.

looks like the top to a tin of some kind.

I thought at first that it was a top to some kind of tin, but I have ruled that out.The underside lip is angled inwards slightly, like a watch piece. I think it is half of something that snapped together, maybe a compass used to lay inside of this? The way the lip is folded(where it is not bent) makes me think that something was pressed inside of it or it was the smaller piece that snapped together with a slightly larger piece.

I'm thinking button face.

I know it's large at 1.5" - but that's not uncommon or unheard of for fashion buttons. Especially during the 60s and 70s... admit it - you remember.

Anyway - Waterbury Button Co. makes a similar one, although more detailed. (Pattern: 13170)

It's a simple and easily recognizable design with little or no detail which means it was probably punched out by the ton. I can see it being something more meaningful if there was any detail.

I am still not sure what this is exactly, however, I wish to thank everyone for the hard work and time spent investigating this "relic". I think I am going to agree with Montana that it is probably a meaningless pc. and I am basing this on the fact that their are no markings on it in order to identify it. I will keep it though in my "pile"....lol

p.s. should I mark this solved?

This button may be inspired or related to Expositions. World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1893 or Pan-American Exposition, Buffalo 1901.

I think it could be military related and an insignia a good possibility.

The two buttons in Alberts (page 312) not a match, however both Guard buttons show the Western hemisphere.
