My buddy and I have been digging at a battlefield site we have permission in Virginia to hunt, and recently tried a another section and they ll at has made all the difference plus having my new XP Deus which has been killer on brass and coins. Last weekend I dug 2/3 part of a Shenkle shell.
Today my buddy and I hit the little hill side again and although iron is everywhere I was able to make a half dozen plus keepers today and several bucket listers: my first 2 cent 1864 coin which the Deus locked on upper 70s, several flat buttons and a couple unidentified cuffs. Concentrating on this area but digging anything they made a pop or squeak I was soon rewarded with a 1801 cap bust almost my first, and my 2 first bayonet scabbard tips. I then got a good signal low 90s and was rewarded with a smashed silver thimble. Raking some of the corn stubble I got a good target solid 75 and about 6 inches down my first Yankee Calvary button with about 30% gilt left. This makes sense as I dug 3 GS Eagle buttons last weekend and US buy boss.
The funny thing I was always hoping to find the fuse to the air burst Shenkle shell and before I left today at about 6 inches I dug what I thought was a shotgun hull only to be told by my buddy that I had recovered the fuse to the shell I dug last weekend and it is a perfect fit.
I am sold on the XP Deus having only bought the detector in Feb 2019 I only started using it Oct of 2019 but am very happy with the results, this machine will punch down but is excellent in a heavy iron infested ground where we hunt in a Virginia. Happy Hunting Diggers.
