The score: Mercs 4, Rosies 3. Also a change of scenery.

Change of pace for the weekend started with my first fishing trip on Lake Erie.
Friday the weather was nice but the launch ramps were empty:

Lake was calm. Fishing slow. My first fish was an average sized walleye.

But the next one was a nice one. ;D

Oh, wait I do have coins…
Earlier last week I went out on a quick lunchtime hunt. I hunted an area that I have researched and tried to think where the kids would be playing. I figured right and found three coins in one hole - a 1925 Wheat penny, 1906 V Nickel and a 1920 Merc. That was sweet. Just as rewarding as finding the stuff was knowing my “hunch” was right.
Other stuff in the pics are from either my mom’s, the ‘berg or the metroparks.

Some older wheats:

The V nickel is in bad shape. :P At least I could get a date. Nice also to get a decent Buffalo with a date.

This 1941D merc is a beauty. Has to be the best I have dug. :)

The $ symbol I dug. I was seeing dollar signs. :D

Bob,
You really got me "hooked" now. Awesome post and great pictures. Those coins are fantastic, especially that 41' Merc. I think Snoop Dogg may be missing that "$" piece you found. Watch out, he may pop a cap in your
behind. :o
I too am a fishing nut. Attached is a picture of my "wall-eye". I've been to Northern Wisconsin a bunch of times, and caught Pike & Musky, but never a Walleye yet. :(
Again, great job. Two of my favorite hobbies.

That is one unique looking walleye you have. ;) From what I have read in the InFisherman Magazine Lake Erie ranks as one of the top(if not the top) places to catch walleye in terms of manhours per fish. Also fun when you get the steelhead too. ;D BTW - never caught a Musky. Only a couple small pike.

Way to go, Big M! Those walleyes are good ones! Good job on the wilver, too, dude! I bet you were doing the happy gibbon dance after those. :D

P.S. send my humble regards to Dan

Yeah, my big M always let's me know it's wilver before I even dig. I have it programed to flash a big "W" for me. ;) :D ;D

I will send your regards to Dan.

Very cool finds, and nice catch too.

Great finds & thanks for posting the fishing pictures. I've been digging up lots of worms while searching for coins and have thought that I ought to bring something to collect them in and use them at the lake 1/4 a mile from my house. You've convinced me. Great coins too.

Great pics, great finds , and a great post. I love walleye fishing, It is hard to beat the taste of fresh caught walleye cooked over an open fire on the shore of a northern Ontario lake [Lac Seul]. [A flashback from my youth] All the best, Merf

Mirage - Sweet catches and sweet finds. I love walleye. That 41 Merc has got some incredible detail.

Superb pile of old coins Bob.
You have dug a lot of silvers this year, congrats!

How many wheats have you found this year?
I bet between this year and last, you have dug more than I have in 30 years of detecting (about 1400)

Smiles!

Great pictures and finds.

Part of the secret to nice silver is to travel to where it is. Profound, eh?

Great stuff.

Hey!

OK, as unbelievably disgusting I find fishing, apparently a lot of people seem to like it. So, I don't think people will be stopping any time soon. (Sigh)

I see you found some great coins--that is, after i found out what a wheat is...yes it's pitiful, but I'm slowly learning. Yeah, and after some help I actually know what rosies and mercs are!!! (yes, I had to ask Nate about a million times, he probably got a little annoyed ;) Soon I'll be kicking his butt) But ya, I'm sure I'll have all the technical stuff down.....soon.....maybe :-\

HH (HA, at least I know what that means!!)

You know what! i don't know what is the bigger haul ......

The Fish or the coins and dug items....But it looks like you had a

great time anyway! Keep on digging............WTG
