The score: Mercs 4, Rosies 3. Also a change of scenery.

Change of pace for the weekend started with my first fishing trip on Lake Erie.
Friday the weather was nice but the launch ramps were empty:

Lake was calm. Fishing slow. My first fish was an average sized walleye.

But the next one was a nice one. ;D

Oh, wait I do have coins…
Earlier last week I went out on a quick lunchtime hunt. I hunted an area that I have researched and tried to think where the kids would be playing. I figured right and found three coins in one hole - a 1925 Wheat penny, 1906 V Nickel and a 1920 Merc. That was sweet. Just as rewarding as finding the stuff was knowing my “hunch” was right.
Other stuff in the pics are from either my mom’s, the ‘berg or the metroparks.

Some older wheats:

The V nickel is in bad shape. :P At least I could get a date. Nice also to get a decent Buffalo with a date.

The Rosies:

Mercs:

This 1941D merc is a beauty. Has to be the best I have dug. :)

The rest of the stuff:

The $ symbol I dug. I was seeing dollar signs. :D

Looks like the Mercs always win! Good stuff, and that fish looks enticing, too. Are they good eating?

Henry, the small walleye are very good eating. The bigger ones not as good but still good. Perch are the best but they are small fish( avg 8-9").

Hey,

Nice haul, but whats up with the Silver War Nickel?

Keep @ it and HH!!

??? Not sure what the question is?

Nice Eye's, Mirage. We don't have them around here, but my old boss brought back some filets from a trip to MN. Delicious!

Great group of finds. The coins look just great, but I guess even the best restoration efforts can't always rescue those V nickles.

Congrats on the research and the hunch paying off. I've had this happen to me a number of times, and you're right about how rewarding it is. Just the other day I said to myself "I bet I find nothing but trash and clad here"...and I was right. ;) :D

Good fishing both ways, land and water! Nice catch. I've noticed this before but never thought to question. What's the "W" on the front of the Merc dime? Is that the designer?

Yes Monty. There are actual two initials A & W. The A is small so hard to see. Adolph Weinman was the designer.

With me Mirage...It's alway's a tie 0-0 :-\ I love all the coin's,don't get me wrong but the Walleye has to be the best tasting freshwater fish to ever swim.Very nice job Mirage....HH!!

Water fishin' and dirt fishin'... Looks like you did great doing both! Nice digs (great pics by the way; nice presentation :) )

Great stuff! you are right - there is great satisfaction in researching, and then cashing in on your research! Looks like you had a great weekend....and water AND soil fishing definetely paid off!

Bob,
You really got me "hooked" now. Awesome post and great pictures. Those coins are fantastic, especially that 41' Merc. I think Snoop Dogg may be missing that "$" piece you found. Watch out, he may pop a cap in your
behind. :o
I too am a fishing nut. Attached is a picture of my "wall-eye". I've been to Northern Wisconsin a bunch of times, and caught Pike & Musky, but never a Walleye yet. :(
Again, great job. Two of my favorite hobbies.
