Another photo of a snippet from the book.
All I remember of my Grandfather was his boots while he sat beside the kitchen stove.

Here is a snippet from a historical book that my mother had contributed to many years ago.

We grew up with what was coined as the "Depression era syndrome"
Reuse-reuse-then find another purpose for the item for a future use.

Also we had the value of money in grained in the brain.

I don't forget one very large bean field in former potato ground (big company pulled the contracts on the taters) , that had a trio of broad hatted migrants hoeing in on my way to fishing.
It was hot. Not just hot. It was hot!
Hours later on my way back there they were hoeing away. Size of the field and their positions hinted they wouldn't be working themselves out of a job anytime soon. And could probably start over when/if they reached the other side before harvest...
(No , they were not working idly. Only vastly.)

No one asks here for work in exchange for a sandwich. Or money. Or anything.
There's work.
Not even youth coming around looking to rake leaves or mow or shovel snow ect..

An old gal across the main road a distance away came and found me. Wanted me to plow her drive out.
I knew she burnt wood in her trailer and wasn't quite rich. (Ahem.).
She asked how much and I told her her grandson (standing next to her) could come around and work. She said he wouldn't. And asked how much again.
Kinda like my neighbors stout boy that doesn't clear his own snow. Let alone others.

Ahh well.
Took two generations of expecting luxuries as a right, to eliminate most attempts at self sufficiency.
Heck even providing ones own basics aren't an individual responsibility for many.
I keep insisting due to my prior experience that eventually , someone has to do the work.

That trio out in the field back when had beans to eat. And I'll bet they did long after too. Figuratively and literally.
(Yes I ate self caught fish.)

It seems that there a lack of young labour period.
Even student summer help disappeared a few years back when the free gravy train was rolling across the county.

It was actually so sad it was down right comical to older folks that thought about it some.
The Township didn't even have a single applicant for their summer positions for lawn care.

The students were actually receiving just as much free money from CERB as they would working everyday.
They had a paid summer holiday of fun.

This mentality seems to have stuck or they just got lazy, and figured it out that labour wasn't a way of earning money.
I guess the parents are proving the free $$$ now.

If we notice this in rural I wonder what the urban is like.

Good evening my beautiful pirates 😆 xx hope you have all had a nice restful Sunday xx 🤗

Went out for a easy swing today.. still super excited by my brooch/buckle find yesterday… there is only 1 other recorded on the PAS data base.. so that is awesome xx can’t wait to show the FLO, will also try to get better pics of the “heads” may get himself to bring his proper camera over to do them 🤔… but that usually results in many hours of watching him ‘tinker’ with the lights, angles, settings 🥱…..!! xx

Guess I better not post this on your finds post...
Comes to mind again though!

Oh yeah?

Oh yeah? Yeah!!! That guy was my friends grandfather!
No fake news...... just the facts! It came up in conversation years after it happened when I was meeting members of his family. He was a class of 1983/hung out/bro's/ friend from as far back as third grade-ish.

The last paragraph you would think... and hope.... it would keep the tourists but no....
BANDON, Oregon: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 struck the southern coast of Oregon this week, but no tsunami was expected, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

More than 75 people reported light tremors from the earthquake, whose epicenter was about 170 miles from the small city of Bandon, Oregon. The quake had an initial depth of 6.2 miles, and no damage was reported.

Washington state emergency management officials noted on social media that, although a 6.0-magnitude earthquake near the Cascadia Subduction Zone may seem alarming, this one occurred in the Blanco Fracture Zone, an area where earthquakes are relatively frequent.

The Cascadia Subduction Zone is a 600-mile-long fault just offshore, stretching from Northern California to British Columbia. Tectonic stress has been building in this region for over 300 years, and seismologists warn it could rupture at any time, potentially triggering a massive earthquake and tsunami.

Black tar doesn't sound like a preferred fuel.
One or two more steps downward and it's going to be coal.

I saw this video clip on cleaning rust off.
I haven't investigated it any further, except it does appear to be brilliant and quick.

coming in late on the thread, but I recently discovered Rustoleum Rust remover. Pretty awesome, and it comes in a spray on gel or liquid. Give it a try.

This is the Astoria-Megler Bridge An impressive structure that connects the state of Oregon with Washington, crossing the majestic Columbia River. With a length of 6,545 meters, it is the longest continuous bridge in North America, allowing vehicles to pass over the wide and deep riverbed. Its main elevated span offers spectacular views of the water and surrounding areas, while its robust features enable it to withstand strong winds and the region's variable weather. It's a true marvel of engineering that has facilitated transit between the two states since 1966.

Beautiful for sure. Went under this thing while in the Merchant Marines back in 92'. Loved that area of the country. Astoria was an awesome little town. Traveled the whole Ranier mountains during the grunge days from Vancouver to Fresno California. Want to go back but probably did it at the right time then vs now.....
