They are one of the loudest insects on the planet. So loud that science and the military have studied them to see how they make so much noise using so little energy.

Cleaning up in the garage today. A mud dauber wasp had made a nest on a length of rope I had in there. They're pretty cool, can sting but never do.
Large though, maybe couple of inches long or so. Thankfully for it the nest was on just the last few feet of the rope and not in the middle so I cut it off to leave on a shelf. Several cells with one egg in each and a feed of probably a caterpillar or two and maybe a spider to feast on when the larvae hatches.
First pic is from stock not mine but what they look like.

The rope it was on and the mud nest.

I better never get stung by one after doing this.
