Well folks, in what seems like decades since our last rain it the area, we finally got drenched on Friday. This made for perfect hunting conditions for Ridley and I on Saturday MDing an early 1900's home in the downtown area.
The weather was in the 70's, nice breeze, shaded area under large oaks, and soft brown soil to dig. Ahhhhh. Ridley brought his kids for awhile because wifey was at work. They hung out with me most of the time, but whenever I heard, "I have to go to the bathroom", I quickly sent them to Papa Ridley. In which I heard him reply, "just pee in the bushes". :o
They were really angels though. ;) Papa Ridley went home a wee bit upset about noon to take the kids home, but returned a while later.
Anyways,
I think my Dad may have been looking down on me, as it turned out to be a pretty good day for me. Within 5 minutes I had already dug a CW cleaner bullet (correct term?). This was my first of that type.
We hunted this yard for about 4 hours, and then the next door neighbor offered to let us detect a few of their properties. Since I was short on time, and Dave was low on batteries, we hit a 1930's house about two blocks away. Again, I was blessed right away with a 1918 Merc! We had to race through this spot, but both of us came up with some neat finds.
Here's my take for the day:
*1918 and 1943 Mercs.

*1945 War nickel (crusty & soaking in oil right now).
*1904 IH.

*Wheats- 1917 , 1919 , 1929 , 1937 , 1944 , 1952.

*CW Cleaner bullet. Any info on this one?

*Two other bullets. Any ID on these?

*A pin with Latin writing. FRONT says: "Gloria Ad Caput Venire" BACK says: "Denmark's NY. 6?" (possibly 69?).
Any idea what this translates to?

*Sterling silver pendant with "Protect us St. Christopher" on one side, and "St. Raphael Protect Us" on the other. Stamped "Sterling".

*"Skovill Mfg. Co. Waterbury" button back with shank.

*A clip of some sort that has what looks to be a fire breathing dragon stamped into it. It looks to be very old.
Any idea what this interesting piece is?

*Toy gun handle with "Cowpoke" on it.

*Asst'd relics including a dog tag with "W.M. Ross Cary, NC" on the front and "Disabled American Veterans" on back.

*A zipper-pull for MasterEagle. ;D

The Mighty Tesoro pulled through again.
Thanks for looking,
MM

Great hunting, looks like you guys are really getting into some productive areas.Love the mercs, too bad the soil is so hard on your coppers, maybe some olive oil might help or perhaps peroxide on that indian. That bullet is really cool,Ive only seen a few of them on here and still not sure exactly what their purpose was. The old key is really nice,I just love those skeleton keys and have only found a couple of them. Make sure you let us know when you are coming back up to IN,maybe some of us can get together for a hunt,HH...Shoot

Nice finds and a fantastic variety....WTG!!!

I found the same type of buckle/clip thing a few months ago. I posted it here but never did get a positive ID.

You've got all base's covered on this one MM....Love the William's Cleaner, not sure if it's a II or III...That one is in excellent condition....Nice Job all around...Congrat's and HH!!

Thats a Williams cleaner type III, when it was new and fresh, it had a zinc insert in it that actually swipped your barrel clean. From what I hear they didnt shoot very straight and were quickly disguarded after getting them. Many times you will find 10 in a row, how they came packaged. Great finds, keep them comming.....HH.....Bill

Awesome finds, cleaning and research:
Let me know if you want someone with an Ace 250 to help.

Possibly in the fall once the weeds, mosquitos, and ticks die out. I have a lot of farm properties to detect at. Also two privies to dig out. Now that sounds like fun! ;D

How's the Ace working for you?

Actually that knob got bumped. I've been setting the discrim on "Tab" when I hunt now. Missing gold (if any) but digging less trash.
Thanks for the labels. My daughter says it looks like a guy walking a potato. ;D Kids! ::)

Awesome WILLIAMS CLEANER TYPE III ModernMiner....You are gettin close to those Civil War Relics for sure. Not sure about the one in the middle, it looks beat up badly..but the other one looks modern as you can see in the picture the serration marks. I see you are showing the back to a button....What is on the front.....or is it a two-piece button with the front missing???

Thanks for that info Sentinel. I was happy as heck to find that cleaner bullet. It was along the hedge about 2' from the sidewalk. I found it within my first 5 minutes!
Yeah, all I got was the back of a button this time.
Any idea what that clip with the Griffin may be?
Thanks,
MM
