Hi again here is some photos of the other item that was given to my sister. it is a gold locket that is nearly the same size as the pendent. there is a design that is marked on the front. I also noticed a few things that are unusual about it. The hinge is on the opposite side to normal lockets. Also in side the locket the casing is not connected all the way around. there is a bit that has either taken off after been made of they made it without it. for those who are after info of were it was found read my other post on my own piece of pirates treasure.let me know your views

i know they are not stamped but have you had them checked for the gold purity? this one or your other pendant full of stones? most all jewlery stores/mom and pops can do it for you

Am I seeing things, or are there some letters in the area I've circled? Looks like a backwards "B" on th far right. OK, I guess I'm seeing things.

I see it too But not "B"

a top heavy 8 maybe an H, G, R, or K next and either a G or 6 after,
and possably another 8 after that is a Little Higher.
but only a guess
may be the original owners initials, makers mark, or ?

ill have a look with a magnifying glass and let yous now what i find.

I tried Enhancing, & Other effects but non worked.
and if I Change Size bigger it Disappears.

It may be "Man in the moon Syndrome"
but it sure looks like more then just imperfections from the casting process

. . . let me know your views.

You asked.

Have you had it (and the pendant) checked to make sure they're not Indian or Pakistani gold electroplated "tourist tat" jewelry?

I also think you're taking a leap putting "pirate" in the title lines.

But that's just cranky 'ol me from over the sea. ;)

This looks like it may have a assayer's mark which people have noticed. Which I believe makes it no older than the 17th century. The incised decoration (I guess) looks late 18th century. It seems to have some age to it with noticeable knocks & scratches.

Very nice stuff. And as far as being Pirate treasure, why not?? There were always Pirates and still are. The pieces could be only 100yrs old and still be "Pirate Treasuer". Tony

The locket looks like a sweethearts locket, which would hold a snip of a lovers hair or a piece of perfumed cloth rather than a picture. It does look old to me, and the engraving looks better than what I would expect from the cheap Pakistani stuff. But I'm not an expert on old gold by any means.

The pirate connection might be true, might not, but probably impossible to determine either way, I think it's more important that they are family heirlooms, and that makes them treasure no matter where they originally came from.

Sentiment, alone, can be worth a pirate's ransom.

No disagreement here on that.

Who the object brings to mind when you hold it is worth more than how heavy it is in your pocket.

here. one of my best friends has grandparents that live in bermuda. his grandpa has a friend named Teddy Tucker. Teddy found a AWESOME gold cross from the pirate days. you can see a pic of it at his website.
also my friend brought back some pictures of treasures his grandpa has found in the ocean. some of the collest pieces i have seen. ill see if i can get some photos from him, he goes to bermuda about once every year.

thanks for your replies i liked reading them. Yes it is a family heirloom. it was given to my mother than to me. My grandmother told both my sister and i to pass it down to our first born daughter when they have their first child. So it has more sentimental value for me then anything else. I couldn't see the letter b on the inside. the design on the front is more noticeable.
