The most unusual coin spill EVER!. . . and it's not over yet. . .
Earlier this week, I spent three hours hunting a local site that's been
producing an interesting variety of finds. This site is over 125-years old
and every now and then, will surprise me with an unexpected relic or two.
The most interesting relic so far is the Sterling hollowware handle to
either a ladies' hairbrush or hand mirror. The only info I've been able to
find on this is that it was made by Reed & Barton but, no luck in matching
a pattern or date. . . I welcome any of you're thoughts.
Day Two:
Was out early this morning and went to a forested part of this site and found an interesting
button encircled with glass beads and less than 20-feet away, a 1902 Indian. . . my first
After thoroughly having my hopes rejuvenated by these last two finds, there was a bounce
in my step as I made my way to the next forested area. . . and possibly some old silver!
Little did I know that at the edge of this forest, I was on my way to recovering my most
unusual coin spill EVER . . . When I first began searching, my XLT was going
ape$hit with penny signals. . . no matter which direction I went. . . penny signals!
I did a quick perimeter search to find out how large this area was and it was AT LEAST
6 x 8 feet in size (remember, I haven't started digging yet )
OK, after all these penny signals I thought someone might have dumped some
scrap metal so stick my knife in the dirt to find out and out pops two ORANGE pennies!
I dig 3" to my right and out pop 3 more. . . and so on. . . and so on. . .
THEN, Thunder, Lightning, Rain. . . I quick cover my holes,
spread some leaves and hide any footprints. . . and leave. . .
To be continued. . .
