The Many Lost Treasures of Mariposa, CA (Photos Added)

About the Finale of your "A flip of a coin spells success" story!

Eagle,

I didn't want to include the entire text of the story but WHAT AN AMAZING story that was!!! I haven't been getting much done at all since I started reading your stories about the lost treasures of Mariposa a couple days ago! I'm enjoying them so much! Like others that have posted before me have said, if you write the book I will be buying it, or them! How ever many you write or if you have since written them in the interveining time since you originally posted these stories please let me know! I definately want to have your experiences in my library and they would be on my TREASURED list.

Not only because the information is great but I love your laid back style of writing, I feel every bit as fastinated and connected with you as the story teller as I did as a young kid in the 60's while listening to my grand father telling me of his experiences in WWII. I am not saying this lightly. It would be an honor to have a book written by you, and I don't think you need a ghost writer!

If you haven't written one yet then I would love it if I could copy them down from the forums so I can reread them anytime, I would hate it if for some reason the Internet crashed and they were lost somehow!

Anyway I have to get back to the stories for now, hopefully there are many more to read!

Don

Halito Don,

I'm still working on the book. But, if you want to copy from the forum, be my guest. The book will be pretty much the same as what you read in here. Though I'm rounding the stories out a bit, which will make each of them a little longer. Plus, while reviewing them, I've found a few errors, and a whole bunch of typos. (lol) Hopefully, by the time it's printed, it will much more enjoyable.

Thanks for the encouragment!!

Eagle

Hey Eagle,
I noticed type o's before but I think we've all done them. Sausage fingers + small buttons = type o's.

Did you get to check out that mine yet? I've been hoping to file a claim but at a loss. In your opinion, would it be better to buy an old mine, or would it be better to file a claim?
I was told by a guy that if you file a placer claim, you only have rights to top 2'. If you file lode claim, then you own 2' down.
Then of course there's a price difference in buying existing claim or filing new claim. Could be thousands of dollars difference.
Just some thoughts going through my head and figured I'd ask a pro.

Thx for all ya do brother.
Ps: I was at a jewelers shop today and saw this opal piece that was sliced. Thought of ya right away. Told mom about ya then and a small part of mariposa, and that maybe someday I could do a road trip to hunt with you "the master" lol.
I think we all can tell from your writings of the type of honorable person you are.
Does that get me an autographed copy of the book. Lol.

Eagle idea for production costs? Better yet with all these reality shows. Let's have ya sale your stories as a Minnie series. Story of Eagles Quest in Mariposa. Then do another for another spot.
Maybe we could get the real story of a prospector and not heresay.
Don't think that'd be boring. They did the Gold Rush after all. Maybe use your voice. If not then Jules Vern then. Jkdg. Lol. The modern day version of the prospector.

Eagle, I don't want to hijack your thread but being somewhat technologically challenged, I don't know any other way to get in touch with you to ask a question. Today while at an auction I picked up a couple of what appear to be samples of Galena. The smaller one is a dark almost bluish gray, and I assume it is mostly lead. But the larger one is very bright silver, almost a white silver color and I wondered it could have silver content. Trying to take pics and get the color to come thru correctly was hard, but I hope the attached pics will give you an idea of what I may (or may not) have. Now with my usual luck I probably paid $20 for two $3 samples, but being in a risk taking mood, I decided to throw the 'big money' around and went for broke. So, any chance I found a real treasure? I have read elsewhere on your thread that we should not overlook possible silver samples when looking for gold, and in the past I have been very single track minded by only looking for gold. Both samples are quite heavy like lead, but could there be silver in the larger sample?
Not to far away in Silver City, Idaho there are many silver mines where much silver and a fair amount of gold was taken out in the old days. So I assume or guess that maby the owner of the auctioned items bought or found the chunk up near or around Silver City, Idaho which is up in the mountains of SW Idaho. Your opinion would be greatly valued. And- I suspect the real gold will be found in your book someday when you get it published! I sure do enjoy your stories, please keep them coming! I hope my pictures of the sample came thru ok!

I'm not sure that you have Galena. All of the Galena that I've ever found was basically black. Galena usually is in a cubic crystaline form. But, what you have there does resemble some silver ore that I've seen. Perhaps rlucasm will be able to give you a better answer than I can. Most of my experiences have been with gold. Though, I have been thinking about a couple of "ghost towns" in Nevada where they were picking up masses of horn silver that weighed multiple pounds each.
Should make for an interesting prospecting trip.
Sorry I can't help you more.

Thanks a lot Brother!! You just popped my little bubble by taking away almost half of my readers. (lol)

Well, I might be persuaded to autograph a title page for you. (I'll tear one out of my personal copy). (lol)
Forget what the guy told you. First of all, a lode claim is only restricted by the perimeters of the claim, not the depth. And actually, it's pretty much the same with a placer claim. The big difference is; A lode claim takes presidence over a placer claim. Lode claims get any available water before a placer claim does.

As far as filing or buying, I would be more inclined to file. There are a lot of shifty people that are filing claims just so they can sell them to some unsuspecting newby. I know of one personally in Virgin Valley Nevada that makes his living from filing opal claims and selling them. As far as I know, no one's found any opals on the claims they bought. Then when they drop them, he refiles on them and sells them again. All this just to say: Beware! And do your homework.

And if you held an author meet and greet book signing at the Mariposa Mining Museum I think you would be amazed at the turnout.
What a great idea!! I think I need you to be my manager. (Do you work cheap??) (lol)

ill take a copy! hopefully you haven't run out yet lol. I have dreams filled with your stories especially the ones that are close by. ive been decommissioned for the past four days with the stomach flu so I haven't had much luck in following up with loose ends. still haven't recovered yet but I think another day or so and ill be ok. now if only I can take a well deserved break from work.
