I'm working a new permission for the first time tonight and it's going to pay off bigtime. It's owned by the historical society and has been hunted exactly once in the 70s. I'm hunting it in exchange for putting together some displays of what I find for their museum.

Wow.

I only got through the front yard, measured at about 0.05 acres (out of 3 acres total) and hit target after target for about 2 hours. All told, I got the following:

1926 merc
1876 seated dime
1877 seated dime
1887 V nickel
18?? V nickel
1904 Indian head
190? Indian head
1919 Buffalo
Dateless buffalo
Dateless shield nickel

Of this bunch, I have been waiting to dig an identifiable seated coin for like 5 years now (my one and only was totally slick except for the date), and I've only ever found one other shield (also dateless).

Awesome night. There is still more there, but I doubt once I get away from the residence it will thin out a bunch.

what a hunt, spectacular!

Helluva start!!! 🙌 Keep 'em coming. That place is Magic! 😁

O yea...keep those posts coming! Congrats on the arrangement you worked out with the Historical Society, that is awesome. Can't wait to see what all comes out of that dirt...Ddf.

Good start. Don't forget the historic relics, got to be more than coins there.

Wow, Congratulations! :occasion14:

Fantastic! This is definitely the stuff of collectors' dreams. Any theories as to why this yard is so prolific? Either way, congratulations!

Yep, I'm on the lookout. Saving and cataloging everything except for modern garbage. I love the coins, but am hoping for some nice relics or buttons because they display better than coins do. Figuring the finds will thin out and change once I leave the years and work the fields near the barn

No idea yet, but it's old and near a major intersection, so maybe just time and traffic. either way I'm happy with it! Hoping I can do the displays justice with some good iron relics too

Sounds like a great permission. Some nice finds so far and for a great cause.

Now thats a day you won't ever forget! Love it!

Awesome hunt, congratulations! :occasion14:
