I recently befriended a kid who lives in the neighborhood of the fort that I?ve been hunting recently. I previously posted a picture of him with the AT Pro I gave him. Well he finally did it. After several days of hunting he finally found an artillery button. The smile on his face was priceless! It looks like we have another historian on our hands. He?s a great kid from a great family. I hope he continues to love history. The fort is a second Seminole war fort that was in existence from 1836 to 1841 and this particular lot has produced more than 50 buttons for me over the years.
I did manage to pull one out myself. His button is a 2 piece artillery button with I think with a Robinson and Jones back mark. Mine was a 1 piece artillery button with a United States back mark.
I was able to pull out a couple buckles and unearthed what appears to be a clay marble. If anyone knows did these clay marbles exist during this time period I would appreciate the feed back. Thanks for looking!
