well, I know now that the end is near for CRHing in my area of michigan. Went to dump some coins and get some more boxes of nickels when I noticed a difference in the sign on the door stating coincounter fees. Normally they are free to account owners up to 200 bucks then it starts to charge 2% of amount returned. Well as of January 1, 2013 they will charge 50 cents for the 1st 100 dollars returned, a dollar for 200 dollars and then it goes up to 2% of amount returned as an account owner. I know a dollar for 200 dollars is really cheap but still the fact that they are changing it weirds me out. I still have my other bank that has free counting no matter the amount but I use that one as my pickup bank. Also, when I was getting my coins counted, I asked just out of curiousity if they had any boxes of nickels for sale. The teller asked and they said no. I told them ok, got my 200 bucks and did a loan payment, depositing some money in my checking for the winter propane refill.

I almost got skunked on my two boxes of nickels. I was down to my last 5 rolls when 1 roll got me a 5 cent bahama fish nickel which I thought was cool. But I really wanted a buff and war nickel. So I did a quick prayer. well someone was listening because I found a 1937 buffalo nickel and a 1945P war nickel in the last two rolls. Not bad. Not my best score but hey, I'll take that over being skunked.

And I definitely plan on carrying my nickels in two seperate bags. Those are seriously heavy. After carrying a doubleload of 2 nickel boxes at once, for the first time in over a year my carpal tunnel flared up and I lost feeling in my fingers on my left hand for over 6 hours. eeesh, I definitely don't need that again. Or maybe I will go back to searching dimes. will have to save up an additional 50 bucks to do that but hey, I got a week in order to do that.

so my war nickel total is up to 6 and my CRHing total for buffs is 2, and 2 dimes. Not too bad for a small time hunter like me. Wish I had more gas mileage allowance but driving into town each day to get coins, which is 24 miles round trip just isn't in the budget at the time.

Anyhow, next day off I plan on dumping my coins and hopefully will have enough to get some dimes.

Hugs and silver for everyone,

I noticed you mention you use a bank that you have a loan with as your pickup bank. Myself, I do the exact opposite. My main bank that I have a loan, several checking/savings/money market accounts and two mortgages with is my dump bank. I know all the "desk jockeys" by name and they know my entire family's names. Here is my theory on this, they are not going to jeopardize several hundreds of dollars of business because a cranky teller doesn't fell like verifying twenty hours and in halves.

Dumping is all about networking. Get the tellers on your side and keep them there.

sorry 47 I didn't make it clear. My bad, but actually my main bank that I have my loan is my dump bank. Just out of curiousity I was asking them about boxes of nickels. I wish I could find a bank or CU that I don't need an account with to get boxes. Both the places I dump, that have counters I have to flip-flop every other week or two, at to which one I pick up my boxes from. there's a third branch that is in my town that doesn't have a counter that I pick up from too but they are really small and I don't want to deplete their small stock asking for coinage. Hmm, yet again I wish I had a freind whose into CRHing. It would be really nice to have a day off and just drive around town, buying boxes or rolls of halves from each branch of bank, go out to lunch, check out a bookstore, get more boxes, dump some more etc. We need a E-Harmony for CRHers, LOL.

Hugs and Silver for everyone,

Why flip flop? Why not one pickup and one dump? Flip flopping probably makes them mad.

Because some people lack common sense. Both branches probably know you use both of them. You're just irritating them. One to dump, one to pick up. Leave it at that. No switching, no flipping, none of that crap. Dedicated banks for dedicated services, it streamlines everything.

I do have common sense. You don't know my circumstances or my area. So don't be so mean unless you are in my shoes. Some days I have 200 bucks to cash and go to one CU and other days I have more and go to the other Coincounter at another bank that has no limit. I don't want to burn out the only coin counter that has no limit. Every other bank and credit union I have been to says that I have to have an account to even buy coinage.

I don't mind helpful advice. But I really could do without the snideness and holier than thou responses. Everyone starts out as Newbies. Which I remember all the time and I help those who don't know as much as I do with coins. Because I remember my own limitations.

Sincerely,
Garoulady

I think the problem bigscores may have, and is similar to the problem I have, is that it gets very frustrating to have given advice and yet you keep posting the same mistakes over and over again. I am not going to attempt to give you advice anymore and just read your posts for the laughs they provide.
