i used to be discouraged by silent ground. ive been through this creek a dozen times and im still coming up with more. 1.26 grams for the solid stuff. not sure the content on the rock, but it was 15.5 grains. pickin up the leftovers from ray mills & co. 20170805_123055.jpg20170805_122720.jpg20170805_062844.jpg20170805_062834.jpg

Ray's style is slow and meticulous - not one to casually walk away after finding a nugget.

I think we are all picking up scraps missed by the earlier guys.

If you want a piece of virgin ground that nobody has detected yet...dig and roll rocks. That's the easiest way.

Especially if you see evidence of past efforts such as cut brush.

i just hinted at it, i bumped into him on my out one day. i did not casually walk away either, i have been meticulous each and every time at this spot. i act like its my 1st pass every time. i use different settings also, and look for areas i missed the prior trip. ive also been clearing overburden

I meant that if he had been detecting that specific spot, there probably wouldn't be "left-overs" like that.
I have only detected with Ray once, but found his style to be very much like my dad's. Slow and patient.

You just had the luck to find a spot that had been missed, and obviously smart enough to follow up on it.

I have meant to make a trip back down there to bust some brush - just have not followed through on it.
I suspect there is a lot of very good ground covered in thick brush or privately owned.

In my area, I have found some decent gold in the bottoms of those small draws that didn't have enough material to attract the miners.
The bedrock is usually less than 3' deep and there usually is gold sitting on it. Sometimes it's where the draw pinched down and got steep. They mined below and skipped the narrow pinched/steep portion.
Wouldn't have ever known if I had not started digging.
