I live a couple miles from the Petroglyph National Monument. It wasn't always a monument.
I used to run my dog out there and would be totally alone.
Then housing began to encroach the area and luckily the area got the protection it needed.
It didn't stop all vandals though. They still think they need to mark the petroglyphs.

Great find.

Good. All these places need protected.

It truly amazes me that red Ochre paint can last that long!! You think they knew it would?

They did. Because studies have been done that discovered repainting over old paintibgs.

After someone brought this thread back to life, I started looking again at my pics. And browsing the inter net I found this......Bear Imagery in Central Montana Rock Art - GreerServices.com I wonder if these could be bears in the paintings. There are bears in the area, last year I found a dead baby grizz not 5 miles from here.... here are a few pics I "remastered"

Cool but hard to decipher. I don't know about most of it but those hands are kinda like an ownership thing and represent how many people. One person for each hand. That ties in to the bottom pictographs somehow, but I have no clue. That's those northern tribes, I grew up on the southern plains, and could be a drawing of a walrus for all I know.

Reason I am thinking this, and it is just speculation as of course I am no where near an expert, is the figure on the right looks like it has a "stick" man inside it. What kind of animal would eat a man? I'm thinking a bear, lol!
