They were not very successful. Otherwise known as "Epic Fail". I had just left to go to church, and 10 minutes later the cell phone rings. It's my friend who is backup for the ADT Security calls. (Their system worked flawlessly). She said the alarm went off, did I want to send the police? The answer should always be yes, but I figure that POS door I was trying to work on the other day blew open in the wind. Wrong. Always call the police. I drove home, I would have beat the police there anyway. Nobody was there. HOWEVER, there were some brand new tire treads going down the lawn to the back door and some fresh footprints which were not mine. Hmmmm.....Went to the back door, slowly and cautiously (with a weapon in hand) it was open. Apparently nobody there. I couldn't open it. Then I realized the "craft project" i had built not an hour before was blocking the door and that's why I and they couldn't get in. It was a large 8' x 10' wooden box to use as a tank to put a model ship in to film for a project for church. It blocked the door.

Went upstairs, cats said, hi, what was all that racket about? But were not alarmed, so I knew that I knew they had left. Police came and I filed a report. It was a real good thing the burglars didn't try it when I was home inside 'cause I would have ducked down in the rear bedroom (my last place to hide, I'm too old to outrun anybody) with the 12 gauge and then called Servicemaster to clean up the mess, I prefer things the way they worked out. I really don't have that much. You'd think a tiny house and a 16 year old car in the driveway would be a hint the rich folks don't live here, but I guess in these days, it's going to get worse and worse. If you don't have an alarm system, get one. And a 12 gauge. And always pray that God protects the burglars from us! Which is exactly what I have been doing for the last few months as I've seen this whole area deteriorate financially. It's gonna get worse, folks. There were two other burglaries in my area in the last 2 weeks, both of them were successful. At the police's request, I did call my neighbors to warn them. (I'm not moving the box, it can stay in front of that door until the 2nd coming.) Because of Obamacare, it is expected by 2015 or 2016 some of our United States will be filing for bankruptcy as no one has yet counted the cost. Healthcare for everyone is a great idea, but none of our leaders gave any thought on how to pay for it. Just wait till those government handouts end. We may be looking at the end of our civilization. I didn't think I'd live to see these dark days coming. But I guess that's what the English thought of the Romans.

the hairs on our heads are counted.

Up the creek, no boat, no oars, no creek. Thank you Congress.

Same here, a big rash of breakins durring the day time when people left for work. I have done as much as I can to keep them at bay such as my wife and I getting concealed handgun licenses. I have security cameras around and in my house that record 24x7 and I can also see them from my phone. Two big dogs and signs posted to beware of them. In my area they were posing as solicitors so I have a big sign on the door saying NO Soliciting dogs will attack.

About all I can do so if they try after that all I can say is good luck and hope I am not home cause I am a hell of a good shot.

amokeythecat, l take the same route that Jeff takes and I can send you the mat below for $9.95 plus $4.75 shipping and handling :icon_thumright: Let me know if you're interested :tongue3:

Where is the sign that says This home protected by Colt, but my neighbors don't believe in guns, and I have decided to repsect their wishes, and not protect them?

I don't want them to know I have guns. Until it's noise making time. They'll never ever ever get thru that door so it would be another alarmed window or door. Police said they probably won't be back. And since I'm not a dealer in stuff people like to steal, I think locals were just looking for a knock, grab and run opportunity.

Or how 'bout "Burglars will be shot and eaten." Not serious, of course. It's like, just leave me alone......and it's much better if they just get stuff and me and my pets are left alone. Stuff can be replaced and I guarantee it's insured.

Went to Coin Beach for awhile and got 2 silver Rosie's, worn out by the salt water but 1951 and 1958. Nothing old, but found 1 complete very dead starfish on the parking lot (?)

I live very rural at 7000ft.in the mts.I have pinned up targets on the trees around the house.they all shot to heck.figure it says it all.I cant see my neighbors but we great friends and woe be to the tweaker that shows up around here.Down the mineshaft and a bag of lime....poof....buh bye tweaker.

Hmm....

I've had 2 solicitors last week alone.1st guy trying to convince me to sign up for his companys electric power vs ComEd and when I balked at it, and wanted to check them out on the internet, he said he would wait.I accused him of being pushy. He claimed he wasn't .I asked him why I was outside on a cold day in bare feet to chat with him and he wouldn't go away... yes he was pushy. I took the form he was trying to get me to sign, to investigate. He grabbed it back and Voided it. Hmm, what the heck? No, I refused to sign it.
2 days ago, it was a really pretty chick at the door? Hmm, must be the magazine subscription chicks again? Hard to say No to a pretty girl and they seem to know that.
No burglars yet, but my neighbor kids like to play ball next to my condo.Only one of them steps in front of my glass door and misses the ball on purpose and now my front door frame has several nasty cracks in it. I hate to call the cops? They seem like nice kids otherwise. I mean this is vandalism isn't it? I spoke to the one kids dad and the problem did not stop. I come to the door and the kids always run off. Its gonna cost 300 bucks for a new door at some point. Should I make a fuss over this ?
Always have wondered how to protect my arsenal of metal detectors indoors tho? Should I record all the serial numbers, model numbers, etc, and give to the insurance person for just in case? It would cost thousands to replace them all. I don't much like guns myself. And people today don't seem to know who Colt and Smith and Wesson are?

I think moats have gone out of style. Too bad. Petsmart doesn't carry fire breathing dragons either. Rats.

You know, there are so many empty houses and closed businesses around here, it's just a matter of time. Could have been a lot worse. (Sent from my cell phone while hiding under the bed....just kidding about that part.)

I live during the week, to be closer to work, in a neighborhood of felons.

Each weekend I go home. But there's always a car here and a BIG dog. And during the week I venture out with my metal detector in a bag.....

That looks like a big gun bag :)

No trouble - so far, but it is expected. That's why I leave nothing here I can't afford to lose when I go home.

And, let's get real, it's getting worse.

Coming soon to a home near you :(

There were two successful burglaries and one unsuccessful out here in the woods within the last 3 weeks now. It's bad and getting worse. I talked to somebody today who was watching an elderly lady rooting through garbage looking for food. The lady found a discarded McD's bag and pulled out a pancake and took it with her to eat. The bad times are here now. (The lady I was talking to gave her some cash.)

If there was a problem with burglars in my neighborhood I would just shoot one, well just catch one would be ok, and hang him from a nearby telephone pole. Kinda like a scarecrow for burglars. Probably a whole lot of laws against that, but it might work.

Dirtbags are everywhere...things can happen any place/any time.
Be very alert...if you have good neighbor, watch each others backs.
My home is protected by a large Rhodesian Ridgeback and ample firepower.:icon_thumleft:
I'm retired, so I am seldom away from home...all valuables are in a very heavy safe when I am away.

I like my security system and attack cat. If something moves outside, the cats run for cover. It's the perfect early alarm system.
