Hi i sort of have a dumb question but i am going to ask it anyways....What is the best place to hunt in order to have higher chances of finding jewlery...maybe someone from experience can share a story where they found most of their rings or any kind of jewlery over the years?I had my metal detector for a month now and i only managed to find to sterling sliver rings and it was both times in the park.

THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of detector are you using? The reason you're finding silver rings but not gold may be due to you not digging all the mid-range targets.  Gold will sound closer to a nickel in terms of discrimination if it is small--and closer to a pull tab if it is a big gold ring.  Unless you dig all of these signals/TID/VID numbers, you won't find gold no matter where you are.  My gold has come from parks and yards, but many folks have good success on beaches.

Marshal,

Not a dumb question at all...I had the best luck on the NC beaches after strong storms but if you don't live near the coast you can try soccer fields, especially those used quite often. Members of my last club (AMDA) do quite well in a popular soccer field that see a lot of use.

Good luck,
Angie

I use a silver umax by tesoro and i usually have sensitivity around 8 and discrimination at around nickel..I go to plattsburgh university in NY.I also live in canada where my family is when i have breaks from school so i do have access to beaches and good parks but maybe because i have been MD for only a month is why i havent had much success finding gold rings....anyways thanks for your feedback guys

No sweat. You'll get there. It took me a year to find my first gold ring--but I hunt for other things besides gold jewelry. It has never been my priority. If you set out to find gold, you will. It's just a matter of time. I also have a silver uMax, and it sounds like if you keep doing what you're doing, you'll be just fine.

I have found them at beaches, playgrounds, and parks, though most were found at beaches. Both diamond rings were beach finds, dry sand.

I dig all solid signals I would rather dig 50 pulltabs, then to skip a nice ring thinking "no need to dig, it's probably a pull tab".

The last diamond ring sounded like a pull tab, was found the last 5 seconds of my hunt as I was leaving the beach, 4-5 feet from the wooden steps leading to the beach showers at Daytona Beach. Proof you always detect till your off the beach, and always detect all paths to and from the beach. .

without a doubt, your highest ring ratios (per targets, coins, junk dug) will be swimming areas. People putting on slippery suntan lotion, and/or removing their jewelry for "safety" to get ready to swim, the cooler waters which shrink fingers, lying sideways on beach blankets (as opposed to our normally upright posture), etc.... All combine for the best jewelry loss ratios.

And to make it better yet, hit ocean beaches after the right types of storms erode them, and then mother nature can put all the heavier items into a perfect natural "sluice-box" type action for you :-*

My first, and only gold ring so far, was found on a soccer field.
It was about 3" down, inside the goal of all places.
It is a kids ring.....10k.

They can be found pretty much anywhere, so you never know.
Keep up the huntin'.

Without even reading the post and being brand new I have to say the beach. Or churchyards where you have permission. Shane

I think there is no best place. I found 2 gold diamond rings in the past 18 months and not much more jewelry. One was in a elementary school playground in the tire chips. The other was in a dirt parking lot at a BAR! Go figure. Also about 20 hours at beaches produce no gold and only a couple of junk rings.

First gold was in a school yard. The second was in a park. They can be found anywhere.

Someone the other day had a good suggestion........side of highways because allot of ppl argue in cars and the girl throws the ring out! Just a thought. :)

In the wifes jewlery box ;D Naw.... Just couldn't resist :D

Seriously, my best finds came from the beaches at minus tides. Get a tide chart/book & look for minus tides. Try cruising the beaches & lakes during the day to get an idea where the most people are congregating. It's a tip older than dirt, but diving docks etc are good, mix sun tan lotion with cold water shrinking fingers make for good hunting.

If you're close Main Beach, Laguna Beach, Ca, 15th Street by the restrooms Newport Beach, Ca
Salt River ,PHoenix, Az.

I have found gold rings everywhere, but the ratio of gold to hours spent detecting is much higher on beaches. As was stated, suntan lotion, wet fingers, splashing each other leads to lost rings. Some at the beach take off the jewelry and leave it in shoes or under a towel and then forget about it.

Make sure you are hearing noise from Pull tabs or you will miss about 90% of the gold rings. Some of the rest are down in the foil range, the white gold ones with diamonds anyway.

You just never know where they will turn up. I found one while stopped at a light and it was laying between lanes. I had another one come out of a fish. The post an pics are here somewhere.

Sandman,

I am just curious. How many hours would you have to hunt per silver or gold jewelry find at the beach? I have about 40 hours at 4 different beaches last year and did not find any good gold or silver jewelry. I also hunted with others and they only found 1 10 K gold small gem stone ring. Am I just unlucky, are my areas bad? What do you think?

I am convinced water activities are the most productive place to find rings.

My first ring was found at a playground, it wasn't gold and I have yet to get my hands on one but as stated before, any place where people are it's possible to find gold, and silver, and copper, and. . . . . . .

Sunday afternoon or early Monday morning at the local watering holes--Take your time and dig all the good signals HH KINGPULLTAB
