''The Acorn''

found this today at a old farm house.. seems to be brass... called the acorn ..patented july 4 1899... tried google pat search but not having any luck... ya'll have any ideas? im thinking a oiler of some kind... thanks very much...

I'd say grease too. As the cap was tightened, grease was forced out of the cup. There was probably a "window" in the top at one time.

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

Looks to be a bicycle pump connector, utilising Histed & Mershon’s 1899 patent:
