:hello: Hey Guys, glad to see y'all and that T-Net is back up and running! Well while the Net has been down, I headed down to South Carolina for

Thanksgiving and went back to the site where I found the 1853 Gold Dollar at. :D I invited Jeff down with me and both he and I hit it hard and with attrition for

just a few pieces of lead here and there. Towards the end of several hours of hunting I got a very deep and faint signal, dug down about 9" and popped

out a nice looking button with much of the gilt still remaining on it....Wasn't sure what it was at first then I saw the Eagle and thought it was going to be an

Eagle "I" or something of the like......but when I turned it over there was that HUGE heavily gilted "R" staring back at me. :o I've dug a couple of these

over the years but they are some extremely hard birds to catch...It would've been more probable to have dug a South Carolina button at this site than

this button but I'm VERY happy with this one and prefer it...This is far and away the best Eagle "Rifleman's" I've dug and one I'm happy to put into the case! Also went out

for an hour here at home and snagged a couple keepers:

AFTER: (Will be able to get the gilt to pop more but this is as far as I cleaned it for the ride back home to Virginia)

Josh,
That "R" button is a beauty!!! Nice gold still on it. Congrats to you. That sucker will look great displayed.
-Doug-

The remaining gold on this button is a testament to that sandy soil in Carolina, its like digging in crystallized sugar.. ;D

Great job on the clean-up too!

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave, the funny thing is I haven't really cleaned it that good yet. I'm going to post another photo after I finish it all the way.

Jeeez Josh!

That's a beautie. I spoke with Joe last night he said you are a good detectorist. I agree. The displays you must have! Way to go buddy.

Thanks man! Joe's a first rate guy and great friend :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:

Those are a couple sweeeeet buttons! Congrats.

I was thinking that it might be an Eagle "V" but even more delighted when I saw that "R". Both are hard to find, but I see more Eagle Voltigeurs than Riflemen.

Nice "R," my friend! I'd love to have one of those GAR's in the collection. Just never happened to dig one. Have had buddies who've dug 'em--so I know I've been close. :)

Super good to dig a kepi buckle too. They are a favorite find of mine.

Cheers,

Buck

Thanks Will. I thought that the GAR button was going to be a nice Virginia Staff as it looked alot like the one I had dug a few months ago not far from there. Very sturdy button either way.....but when I got the brush out and brushed it I saw the GAR and was still happy with it. Looks like it was laying against a piece of iron for a long time.

Josh, that's a VERY rare bird in our area. We generally just have GS, and a few Dragoon and cavalry Eagles. That's a beauty. The next thing you know, you will find a "V" (Voltiguer) pre war Eagle button at home in VA. HH, Quindy.

Thanks Quin..its a Scarce Bird out here too...haven't found any Voltigeurs this year but there's one month left ;D And all of next year!

Great R, so few targets.. glad that was one of em

Remember I said that day that that site was definitely a quality over quantity site...doesn't spit up alot, but when it does its usually something pretty good, and again, it didn't let down :icon_thumleft:

Thats a sweet Rifleman's button Josh. Love all the gilt on it. I have only dug two, but had to go all the way to Texas to get 'em :laughing7:

Thanks Steve. I've dug a couple others but they weren't in the condition of this one, they had no gilt left and one was nearly falling apart..

Very very nice Rifleman button..those are alot more rare than most people think...I got my first one this year after 12 years of CW relic hunting. Great find my friend!

I agree and actually see more Eagle "V" buttons that float through the forums than I do Eagle "R"s. Congrats on your first bud and thanks! :icon_thumleft:
