I just wanted to give you all a big thanks! I started MDing in the late 80’s and hunted for many years before life took a big detour and my, shall we call them obligations, forced me away from the coil. A wife who hated anything outdoors, kids, a war, a job that demanded all my time, a different wife, another job that demanded all my time, another kid, more responsibility at work and a new homestead with LOTS of work. Needless to say, I didn’t have much time for any “ground fishing” in the past 8 years.
Then something happened about a year ago. I had to use my metal detector for something at work (rough huh!?) and came home and started reading through the forums. I made my way to the back of the closet and found the XLT and the old eagle spectrum that it replaced.
Wifey said that it all seemed fairly interesting to her so we went over to a co-workers house and I gave her the basic lesson on how to use the XLT. I set the machine on coin/jewelry and she started off across the yard. Her first coin (I know you won’t believe this) was a 1912 barber dime. A year later and I have a hunting partner who likes swinging a coil as much as I do. Only problem is that I always seem to get stuck swinging that #$@# heavy eagle spectrum around!
Since then I have also introduced another co-worker to “coil archeology” and the three of us get out about 4 or 5 times a month. We live in a pretty target rich environment and do pretty well finding swag (I posted my Mercs alone from last year recently in today’s finds).
Friday we are hunting an old site with potential for some caches and later this month a farm pasture that once was an 1860’s town site (old for this part of the county)
I want you all to know that, by coming to the forums and looking at the great swag posted here, you have all helped me to “get back into the swing of things”. THANKS A MILLION!
Remember, don’t be afraid of people! knock on their doors, stop and talk to them, most will let you hunt! Do research. Go to where the old stuff is and you will find old stuff! Don’t let that house that was just torn down be turned into condos before you pass a coil over the ground! Sneak in after the construction crew is done tearing up the sidewalk! Hunt that parkay and don’t worry about obnoxious fools making fun of you as they pass by! And above all, keep your coil to the soil. Life will surely take you for a ride someday, just try to maintain your sanity!
THANKS AGAIN
