Thank you JUST GO DETECTING!! The 8th Regiment button made the BANNER!!!

I went out this morning thinking to meet my cousin at the spot where he found all his finds from yesterday but i called him and unfortunately he was sick. So i headed over to the spot where he told me he was finding all his finds, and it was a very slow start. After walking up and down this steep hill a few times i walked down the the creek to try it out but was way to trashy. While walking but up the hill near the fence and get a ok shallow tone and there lays a button on top of the ground!! So a slowed down and worked the whole hill side and ended up with my OLDEST readable date coin!! 1775 KGII!! I was so excited, i could see the coin pop out of the hole in slow motion and i was hoping so much it was a coin and not a big flat button. I immediately picked it up and could see it was a KG coin, then rubbed the reverse and saw the date appear instantly! The next signal was the Pewter button with the 8 in the center and some words around the edge, any idea on it, is it a Revolutionary War Button? My button total was 11, some old buckle pieces, two CW Bullets, and some other great relics!!! Thank you Matt again for leading me to a great spot!! Thanks for looking a HH!!

Congrats on your KGIII. Did you see all of my dig holes? I felt bad because I was digging SO many targets. Kinda looked like mini bombs have been dropped everywhere. I need to stop giving out all of my secret spots. :laughing7: It sucks that there's so much trash at the bottom. Bet there are tons of good signals being masked.

That is one hot spot Matt found, both of you did outstanding. The KGIII is in great shape for a grounder, congrats. Can't help you on the button, I did not see it as an American Rev War button, hopefully someone else will chime in on your button. Are you sure it is an 8 and not an S? Not that it would help me ID it, but just asking.

Love that old coin ... congrats on your finds !!

Your button has UNITED STATES around the 8. Early U.S. 8th regiment - Not Rev War but early 1800's. Devonrex

WOOPS, My bad. The only Machin in the series is Vlack 4-75A. The reverse from your coin doesn't match the Machins. The triangular denticles threw me off. Bummer, Thought you had a good 1.

Wow F2, that was a great hunt. The only way to slow you & Matt down is for you both to get the flu and take the batteries out of your detectors-LOL. Great coins & relics. HH, Q.

Congrats on the button, I never got the Alberts book out to look for it there, since I just wanted to either eliminate or justify it was Rev War and it was not in Troiani's book, but glad it was in Albert's as a later era button.
Your 1775 is a nice counterfeit KGIII. It does not have a variety assigned to it yet but a friend of mine sent an example of a very nice one for comparison and it is in the family to be called the "Young Head" family of counterfeited KGIII. Heck, I would give it a variety name of drippy nose, look at the "garbage" at the end of the nose.:)

Quick question. Were most of the KG coins in the colonies at the time counterfeits?

Thanks DON!! I thought the nose looked a little funny when i cleaned it off, i'm still calling it my oldest coin with a readable date though!!!!

The KG III counterfeits are period, not necessarily minted in 1775, but if not then within a few years. Almost all KGIII halfpence found by detectorists in the States are counterfeits from that period.

I thought so. Thanks.

Great finds!!!

Nice finds Ryan! That 8th Regiment is one you don't see very often. You KG III is a real nice one. Too bad your Dr. Kilmer's Swamp Root Kidney Liver and Bladder Cure wasn't whole. I have several of them in various sizes, they are a cool old patent medicine bottle.

Thanks Steve!
There are tons of broken up glass bottles everywhere in this one little spot, some were pretty early 1900's bottles too:( I saw that piece and thought it looked cool and wanted to see what the rest looked like, do you have a pic of the whole bottle?
