Tell me your guys opinion on this...

I have a Hunch he was wondering if the old man giving it to her may have been meant as an Insult,
Threat, Gift or What ? but only a guess as he never explained.

Personally he may have known she was Jewish, & it may have been his way
of admitting his past to her, and that he was sorry, since she was so nice to him :dontknow:
again just a guess.

Or maybe John just wanted to know if you's liked it.

He apologized for his earlier comment and wanted to leave :(
I convinced him you are Good People & he should stick around.
I think I'm right

The "funny" part is that a swastika doesnt even originate from germany. It was a symbol of the American indians....and I think it even goes back farther than that.

Also....back before the world wars.......People raised there hand to the sky......meaning " To God". Hitler took that and created " Heil Hitler" and it took on a negative aspect and the the rest is history.

Its hard to say anything these days without someone being "offended". Its ridiculous .....Im sure one of these days, I will be sued by the Squirrel United Front for metal detecting in their nut sanctuary of historical significance.

I think more data is required, such as what is the relationship between this person and your wife.......meaning are they friendly, and she thought your wife would perhaps enjoy smashing it with a hammer? I think we can really only speculate as to what the intentions were of this person. I myself would ask the question, WHY for starters? Could be good intentioned (yes, seriously scratching my head on this one) on what that might be. Way easy to be furious, harder to get in-tell then decide, either way, your going to do, what your going to do. At least, was a poorly thought out gift (in a horrible way IMO) On the up side, shes one of Gods chosen people, and that, is very cool.

I'm just wondering why the op hasn't responded to any questions regarding his reasoning for posting this item in the first place. Yet he responds to an off topic comment in the middle of the controversy and cussing? Whatever. I'm not offering any more assistance or opinions on this thread.

But, is this post in the correct forum? :icon_scratch:

I mean, I understand the sentiments. But, what criteria has to be met before a post gets shuffled along to a more proper forum for the topic?
Just curious. I have had a few moved but that's understandable. I can't keep myself on topic when I'm talking to myself!! LOL

Still. :dontknow:

ooops Yea Not today's finds, I forgot to look where it was posted.

I suppose General Discussion will be best since I don't know his original Purpose

Some people get all twisted in a knot over someone showing and telling a Nazi item....but have no problems at all with proudly showing off a early 1800's slave tag. It's a piece of history people, nothing more nothing less.

Speaking personally, as a woman of the Jewish faith, I would find this gift to be insulting. JMO. However, not knowing the "back story" of this man I can't offer an opinion as to why he gave your wife this

Anita

Ok back to the subject... you haven't answered a single question asked of you by other members or myself.
Are you just asking for an ID on the object? As stated by jewelerguy it is a Luftwaffe EM/NCO Visor hat eagle
Are you asking if she should be offended? Sure unless... see reply number 8
Are you looking for a value of the thing? modest, it's a common item. $25-$50 IMHO if it's authentic.

It would have went on a hat that looks like this-

attachment.php

Here is some info on it-

On its inception on February 26TH 1935, the Luftwaffe adopted most of the uniform items of the earlier DLV, Deutscher Luftsport Verband, (German Air Sports League), its civilian forerunner, including the visor cap. In March 1935 the earlier, "Tellerform", saucer shaped, caps were replaced with a new, "Sattelform" cap with a higher front peak and an oval shaped top. The Luftwaffe pattern national eagle was originally introduced for wear by Fliegerschaft, (Pilot Base), personnel of the DLV, Deutscher Luftsportsverband, (German Air Sports Association), the clandestine, civilian, forerunner of the Luftwaffe on August 18TH 1934 and was officially adopted for wear by all Luftwaffe personnel on March 1ST 1935. The original first pattern national eagle was utilized until a, slightly modified, second pattern national eagle was introduced in late 1936 or early 1937. Regulations dictated that the national eagle was to be worn on almost all headgear and on the right breast of almost all uniforms with a few minor exceptions. Along with the introduction of the "Sattelform" cap a new winged wreath and national tri-color cockade were also introduced and were utilized by all ranks until the end of the war. Officer's ranks generally utilized hand embroidered cap insignia as opposed to the stamped metal visor cap insignia as generally utilized by EM/NCO ranks

Sorry digemup, it has no markings. Seems to clean as well...

No he gave no reason, but my wife says he was very polite when he gave it to her, I responded poorly to an insult, to everyone not involved in that I'm sorry. But if you don't have anything constructive to say then don't say anything. dont judge me because I made an error while posting. I'm not perfect... I was just asking for a general opinion on the object. Not to talk crap and judge others. It doesn't make me feel good when I'm called stupid and made fun of cause i have a milk jug cap in my favorite finds video or called a shell casing a pen on youtube.. I will be having my account deleted.

Thanks for the ideas and opinions from the folks who weren't so harsh about it.

My "original purpose" was to ask what anyone knew, I made an error while posting. It was given to my wife, who then gave it to me, that's why it's in Today's Finds.

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask,

Anita If you were his care giver, and he happened to have been German,
& fought during WW2. If this item had been his Keepsake that he was Proud of,
but in his Final years, Appreciated you so much he gave it to you as his way of saying
"this means nothing to me any more, take it & do as you will"
Would there still be no forgiveness ?

Is there no room for Forgiveness for people who were drafted anywhere ?
except on your own side ?

Thank you for explaining ! yes here at TreasureNet, a Gift is not considered a today's Find,
Even an EBay win is not a Today's Find here.
Certain Yard sale finds are, it's a case be case decision on some, I must admit.

As for your original Purpose What is it, or here would have worked better .

Again Thanks for the Note & it is definitely a cool historical gift in my opinion.

of course I might thank a person on a Street for Gifting me a Switch blade,
or balisong if he threw it at me,
& it missed or landed at my feet :laughing7:

Update : apparently there are a Few members here Who I was mistaken about :(
apparently they are Not all Good People here :( and are Stalking him to other places :(
He now is requesting Deletion of His account :(

This is Very Sad to me :(

I thought you's were better then that

We are all words on a screen Jeff, unless you have met somebody in person, well knowing somebody online, is akin to somebody saying they are a saint, when in reality they may be closer to ted bundy.

Mike

well I'm a saint.

Just call me "s'ain't perfect" 8-)

But it always disappoints me when I get a request for account deletion.

While we're on the topic of what's offensive, I'm offended by the signature of I DIG JESUS.
It implies that the wife of the OP and any other non-christian is a satanist.
Is this necessary on a treasure hunting forum?
Sheesh! :BangHead:

Jeff did he say who was following him and harnessing him as that violates our rules. No need to post here send it via PM.....

That is no way to treat any member and especially a new member.

Muddy I didn't get that from I Dig Jesus's name at all. If he/she would have written I Dig Dogs I wouldn't think the implication was hatred of cats.

And the focus of this thread wasn't for a list of offenses. I suggest if something offends you that badly to contact a moderator? Not in an unrelated topic's forum. :)
