I see this rock type is the same as the type in central city blackhawk in my state. A place that was famous for gold.

What do you think my odds are for finding precious metal here?

Hey Stryker, in a sentence, Not so simple. THOUSANDS of books have been written... and sold... on how to find gold. Thousands can reply to your question yet the question would probably not be answered. (I wish!) Your best coverage of the subject for STARTERS would be to match up the area with your state geo maps. THEN... pick your "route". It would be my first thought that the area is over 10,000 feet high. Much higher than most gold strikes. TTC

Nothing. With the exception that the gold-bearing area may be lower in the rocks.

The further you have to dig to find gold-bearing ore, the more expensive your operation will be. Many gold-bearing areas in Oregon have this problem. At elevations above 5,000 feet, during winter, operations may have to shut down because of snowfall.

Yes, you are in another state. But have you lived at that elevation? And how deep will you have to reach before you start getting the good stuff? How much will you have to be capitalized at before you start seeing production?

In other words, just because you have similar rocks in the area doesn't mean the gold will be there too.

i wouldn't invest any money into this unless its a confirmed gold location, yet I would still be cautious. Its been said before and will be said again I'm sure, gold is where you find it! goodluck

No slight on your quest, Striker, but the odds of gold being that high are small. The gold "band" of the CA Mother Lode is very distinct. About a mile wide running parrelell to the crest, and going from ABOUT Yreka to Maricopa, west of the crest. And one more thing... recent (geological time) volcanic activity and active faults. Gold is EVERYWHERE. Good pockets abound, but if looking for what the minors left behind, there are much better spots than at 10,000 feet. Prove me wrong by finding it up there and I'll be digging alongside you. Good luck, my friend. (p.s. some of the local mines here in Angel's camp and Fourth Crossing have been dug 4500 feet deep, but very few go up higher than 4 or 5 thousand feet) TTC

This area is located in Colorados mineral belt (everything there tends to be over 10,000 feet). I used Google Earth to locate your listed Long/Latt. Most of the places I hunt in Colorado are near tree line (11,000 feet or so).

If the area is like Blackhawk, you should be able to sample where any water has run and see if you can find free gold. If there is a creek bed, that would be where I would start. You may need a recirculating high banker if there is no water there (battery operated gear does not require permits in Colorado) to process a larger amount at a time.

If there are 4WD trails in the area, it maybe worthwhile to spend some time sampling the area.

Yes I think this is a good area to try I have heard of there being gold in terryall creek and its feeder streams further up. I have yet to try prospecting this area. I wanted to go there last summer but never made it. As far as the 10,000 ft thing most gold in colorado is found around or above this elevation. other states might be diffrent but not in colorado. I say try it and let me know how you do.
