I had a cheap rad shack detector when I was 10 and 17 years later want to get back into the hobby. I am a newbee, I live in southwest Louisiana, but plan to search a pretty wide radius. The ground where I live is mostly moist topsoil, we do have a few beaches with brackish ( fresh water with a little salt washing up when it's rough) water. I also plan to search a salt water beach and a fresh water lake with clay soil and old man made beaches. I will of course also be searching in what seems to be the normal hunting areas ( parks, ball fields, back yard)
So, now to the real question, I want to spend under $300 for my first detector. I found the Garrett ACE 250 at kellyco for $212 with what looks like kellyco's normal set of extras. I also found the Teknetics Delta 4000 for $ 279 with the same set of extras, plus a pinpointer. I also see the F2 and the , MP3 detectors in my price range, but after quite a bit of reading on this site and review sites, the ladder two detectors listed look less than nominal. So now I guess I'm asking, What is best for my buck and for my area. Thanks ahead of time.
