I've been using a DFX since 2003. Most times on the beach due to low mineralization it would not GB and still find an occasional hot rock mostly while detecting Cape Cod Bay. It's time for a P.I. for much greater depth on the wet sand. I'm leaning towards the Whites TDI SL even though it's not waterproof. If I am understanding correctly when it is ground balanced it will ignore iron, foil and some "hot rocks". If I'm at the same beach where the DFX would not ground balance can I manually ground balance the TDI so that it will disc. iron, foil and "hot rocks". I have seen videos of the TDI on the beach with the pulse set to 10 yet on the knob there is a higher setting probably around 17 for wet salt sand. Wouldn't that a better setting or would it not find smaller Gold jewelry? If the GB is "off" will it get max. depth at max. Gain but respond to all targets? The DFX has served me well but is limited in depth especially at the beach for certain Gold items. With a Stealth 720i scoop and the TDI SL I think I would do better at the beach. I was also considering an Excaliber 1000 but on the outer beach the wave height and undertow would not be much fun dealing with. I was also thinking about the Tesoro "Sand Shark" but it seems that it doesn't find targets at the depth that the TDI does although it's half the price and waterproof. I have on two occassions chatted with another beach hunter who was using some chestmounted Mine
