TDI Pro vs TDI SL question

Yes. The main difference is you have to hit the Pro several more times with a hammer to relieve your anger and disappointment with it. :skullflag:

Is my money better spent on another PI detector then? Thinking of the ATX and Minelab 4500

If you can afford a Minelab GPX machine you should buy it - but ONLY from a dealer that will give you a full day field training with it. If you don't get training from an authorized dealer (or a buddy that uses one), you may NEVER be able to set the machine up correctly for the type of hunting you want to do. When I first started nuggetshooting with the Minelab 5000, it took 100-hours to speak its language fluently - and that was with a full day of instructions in the field to give me a head start.

Even if you could find a used SD or GP, you would do better than the TDI. Some guys really like the ATX, but I don't. Too heavy and unbalanced, and just not as deep or sensitive as the GPX or GPZ. :skullflag:

I had a TDI for a while. I miss that machine. I liked it. It was nice and deep and it was pleasant on my ears. I have also used the SL. They both seem to be equal in depth. The TDI is great if you are on a budget or the other half says "There is no way in hell you are spending that kind of money on a metal detector". Id love to have one of those Minelab machines but I cant afford one new or used. On a budget the TDI is great!! if you can afford it, like Terry says, get the Minelab.

Pro vs SL They say about an inch in depth difference, but the pro's lithium battery is a haz mat issue (shipping issues) Whites no longer has the Pro listed in there catalog.

If you put a Lithium-ion 14.8 volt battery in the SL, there's no difference in depth, or very minimal.

Minelab makes some fine machines. They are WAY overpriced, WAY too complicated to use and learn in many cases, and the dealers that sell them WAY over-hype them because they provide the highest profit margins allowed by the manufacturer. That's why some dealers can afford to spend an entire day with you learning to use their high profit machine. Enjoy! H Digs

Minelab is just overpriced CRAP with the POOREST CUSOMER SERVICE ON THE PLANET. ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD SPEND TWICE AS MUCH FOR A CRAP PRODUCT WHEN FOR HALF AS MUCH YOU CAN BUY A HIGH QIUALITY TOP OF LINE MADE IN AMERICA METAL DETECTOR THAT CAN OUT WORK ANY CRAP MADE BY MINELAB ANY DAY. THE TDI PRO IS BETTER THE SL, HOWEVER LIKE ALL SIMULAR MACHINES YOU NEED TO GO SLOWER THEN YOUR STANDARD VFL MACHINES....If you want a great detector that will work in ALL soil conditions any where for half the price then get a MXT ALL PRO or spend more on a V3i and still save thousands over CRAP made by mnelab
