What a great idea! I have used dollars as bookmarks many times and never thought of looking for others doing so. I will definitely keep an eye open next time i go to yard sales!

When I stay at a motel I go in the room and search it very well part of my search is to look in the bible JIC. What to look for well the usual drugs dont want the cops to bust in on a tip from an informant that you have drugs and suffer from a local yocal sting setup. But I look for things like jewerlery or filthy things like spent -0-0-0-0 you know well if I find that I seek another motel if they dont clean enough to find old trojenz then you really dont want to stay there.

Yes you can find stuff in books, also look under the beds in the hotel rooms, under the bathroom counters there also, and its alot of fun to look inside picture frames at thrift stores. Found some letter to soembody in chinese once.

I'm always checking old books. Haven't found any cash yet but I have found postcards and pictures and other assorted ephemera as well as many books signed by the author, including one from Bob Hope back in the 40's.

When you're checking out books at flea markets, yard sales and thrift stores, flip through them carefully...I've found 3 so far that had paper money inside...purposely hidden, or possibly used as a bookmark!

Larry G. :)

This reminds of a time when I found 3 one dollar bills between the pages of a book while browsing in the public library.

i was just doing this today!!! havent found cash yet but have found pressed leaves and flowers, and old newspaper clippings and recipes from the 40s

I was at a thrift shop yesterday and was looking through some of the books that seemed to have creases and or something in the pages. In the few minutes that I was there, i found a few receipts that were used as bookmarks and an old boarding pass/plane ticket with ALL of somebody's information on it. I found it interesting how someone would donate something with all of their personal information on it.

There is a book written by John Hoffman the art and science of dumpster diving you can read it for free online. Go to the chapter called information. You will be shocked at what goes on out there. Happy reading.

I just finished that last week and started a re-read. Here's the link to the book. The information chapter was, to me, the least valuable. Those chapters felt too much like a handbook on blackmail and ID theft. Still a wealth of great info. I need a DD partner.

I am with you he goes on in his second book how he used information to squash a corrupt police force. Some of these people that do wrong have been at evil so long they believe that what they do is legit because they have been at it so long and when you leave hard evidence behind there is a way to end their evil ways. I am with you I would never commit fraud but he lets you know how you can be a victum how to prevent it from happening to you. I did some DD but my wife demanded I stop she says we make too much for me to be doing that. I feel what we throw away is just wrong I have gotten vacumn cleaners out the trasn that only needed a good cleaning and filter replacment.

Anybody see Antiques Roadshow last night? A woman stopped at a dumpster that had a like new couch sitting next to it. She felt guilty about taking it so knocked on the door to ask if was ok. The man was very receptive and also asked if there was anything else they were looking for. She said carpet as her daughter was moving into new condo. Just so happened the guy threw out bags of small carpets and said to help herself. She did and had one of the 4 she took on the roadshow...it's an Iranian piece from around 1800 that was valued at 125- 150K. She said any $ would need to be split because it was her mom that did the diving.

Yes, I saw it. I was wondering about the other three rugs she brought to the show, they never mentioned them after the four rug intro.
