it's been a hawhile since I posted on TNET for a reason that shall remain--- for now-- a secret

still at it wit da ATPro, and a quiet fall jaunt to a forest in Kingston NY with diggin buddy FMERG has been lucrative--- if ya like findin' lucras :tongue3:

my 1st hole for the outing was a long lost mid 1800's cache of 22 Seated halves, a DBHD, & seated qtr.--- all scattered in a pit down 8-10". took a half hour to extract from the rocks & roots. after gazing at the photos--- bear in mind--- I am NOT the luckiest digger in NY for the day-----so don't protest, cry, curse me or send mean emails sayin' you could have dug this virtual (that will make sense after you see the coins) honey hole of a find:BangHead::BangHead:

@!^&?????

Ummmm.... congrats???

me & Frank just had that stupid look ---- like: "I coulda been a contendurr" still we got 5 REAL silburr dimes, some wheats & about 6 IHP's from the 30 some acres of DEEP WOODS--- and the "OFF" is mandatory---- dunno what weez gonna do 'bout the coyotes ???:BangHead::BangHead:

In the lower photos, aren't some of those metal scraps the actual dies or (more likely molds) used by the counterfeiter? The design is reversed on them. I think you discovered the site of a long lost counterfeiting operation! In my opinion, a GREAT find, and those counterfeit coins will be worth something significant to the collector of contemporary counterfeits.

I have never been able to understand your post and this one is no different??? Looks like you dug a cache of counterfeit coins. Exciting recovery no matter what they are.

UN....BELIEVE.....ABLE!!!! I’m so glad you got that REAL treasure you where looking for. Keep working those woods my friend.

This hobby has such a wicked sense of humor lol

real or not that's an incredible find and cooler than anything I've ever found in my life. congrats!

Are you sure they’re fake? I’m not that experienced with American coins but they look like genuine silver coins to me with fire/heat damage. Some look to have melted into others leaving an impression and one group is still stuck together.
I’ll try to find a picture of coins with similar damage.

Are you sure they're fake? Looks like silver to me, for the most part anyway. All those 1854s is suspicious though. I don't know the anatomy of the fire and how things were arranged, but It seems that the fire completely melted some of the coins and the blobs of metal with a "negative" cast of coins may have been sitting in the coal-bed as the fire burned out whatever was supporting other coins above, which fell into the blobs (which cooled when fresh coins fell in them) and left the negative impressions? Those pieces don't really look like counterfeiter's molds to me, but if that was a counterfeiter's shed or workshop that burned down while they were making a batch then there may well be more tools of the trade in the area, I'd definitely go back and see what else turns up there.

Super awesome discovery BTW, congratulations!!

also finding roundballs & a bunch of 45/70 3 ringers--- more to come---- lotta wood to trip over before we is over & dunwit this forest

no silver, weights & sizes are also wrong

What did you do to piss of the guy upstairs wow I would have rather never even found em. That's a horrible joke!!!!! Sorry that happened well at least for a few moments you enjoyed that omg feeling

Strange and interesting find ! Have the metal tested - I too think they could be the real thing exposed to a house fire .

Absolutely a killer find...real/counterfeit...just killer! :notworthy:
