T2 Depth Reading Accuracy

Been using primarily 3 as of late. It still seem 2-3" generous on the depth. Kind of annoying really.

Tonight was its best outting so far. Picked a fair amount of clad including 5 nickels, heart shaped watch pendant and this little beauty…

.999 Gold! Too bad the stone is missing.

Kinda funny…it rang up 77-78 steady. I stepped away because I really didn't want to dig a zinc penny but something about the signal made me turn back around and dig. I ended up digging 10 more zinc pennies before I went home. :laughing7:

Yup that'll keep ya digging zinc pennies for awhile. That's a nice little find congrats. Just a heads up that all of my indian head pennies have rung up at 79 but I dug one this past weekend that came up 78 because it was so corroded. But if you're in a newer park or something those 77-78 can seem like your worst enemy. I'm lucky with the old sites I hunt that I literally dig everything including a few iron signals as I love old axe heads and want to make a nice iron tool display at some point.
Let me ask you a question fella. Is the depth reading off from where your coil is sitting or from the grounds surface to the target? The reason I ask is because I have a couple of sites with some short stubble so obviously the depth I actually dig a target at is going to be smaller than the depth it reads. Please don't be offended by the question as I know you are experienced it's just weird with the depth issues on coin targets and such. I used to measure the finds I dug just to see if it was accurate and for the most part it was very close. Obviously the tiny targets will show deeper but on the coins I dug it was very close

Fair question… both one and the same to me I guess. When PP'n I always have the coil flat to the ground. I could understand if it were a little off but this seems a little excessive to me. I'm always digging 5-6" plugs and the bloody coins are 2". Now this is really only on the shallow (not surface) coins. On surface and deeper coins it seems to be fine.

Yeah that's a huge pain for sure. Not sure what the story is. I just had to have my coil recalibrated but yours would be off regardless of depth if that was the case

I'm new to the T2 se but have found my machine does the same. It will say 5" and I will end up recovering it at 1" or 2". A good pinpointer will help keep you from digging massive plugs. If the object is close to the surface my propointer will hit it every time once I pin point it with the T2.
