. I dug this up today near a cellar hole. I thought it was a sword hilt as soon as I pulled it from the ground. I am not sure what type of metal it is. One side of the guard is broken. There is a nice design on the handle. The handle is hollow like a tang went through it. So am I right or is this just a fancy letter opener? The site it came from is old and located in newburgh ny. A few 1700s coins came out of the ground at this spot. There was a lot of activity in this area during the revolution. Could this be from the revolution?
