'SWAGMAN INGENUITY' [i want too see your hats now]
Hi everyone,In australian history theres always been drifters {hobo's}.These men where called Swagmen.the name Swag is the slang name for their bed roll or camp blanket. They diftered from place to place ,doing odd jobs.Cut a pile of fire wood, fix a fence and shear some sheep and in enchange would get a meal.Very few would take up the offer of a bed for the night, as they where free spirited men who liked to sleep under the stars. They lived off the land and where Jacks-of -all-Trades [could turn their hand at anything]They are rememeber in australian history for their ingenuity,e.g puting corks on their hats with string to keep the flies away and made a lot of usefull item from off cuts of stock fencing wire {wireware}.I couldn't find any of these items but i did find my swag hat today and the idea of the corks really works. It has been used for over a hundred and fifty years.heres a pic of the Mighty tin Swag-Hat.
