Just purchased this unit used...downloaded the manual. Am I correct in thinking that there is no way to discriminate tagets? I guess in the surf there is no need to do so? thanks

You are right, there is hardly any disc on pulse units. Oh, they advertise that there is disc because that is what we wanna hear, but by doing so the detectors can only get about a couple inches depth unlike VLF's no matter which brand is used. One, the Infinium has a two tone response, a high-low and a low-high. Natch the one were the pull tabs are is the same as most gold rings.....
You got it. No discrimination at all. If its metal, the PI will find and deeply! The down side is you will dig a lot of junk. The up side is you will not miss anything, including gold.
The other up side is that digging in the sand is a piece of cake compared to dirt digging.
With practice, you can tell if youare hittin bobby pins and junk by the beep.. a blasting beep is tyically good things.. while I short, static beep is typically junk...

This is tru you will start to understand the tones of the beep, however I find the blasting beep to normally be junk, pennies, or bottlecaps. You should listen for the very slight changes in threshold
