Well as of late, I have not posted anything good... I just haven't found much to post about... other than that 18k gold pendant (2 grams)...

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,368236.msg2614766.html#msg2614766

and this isn't the greatest find either at least compared to all of your awesome finds... but I'm happy...

I was hunting in a field that I have hunted before... lots of room to search... and I know that this field was used as a baseball field from the 50's up to the present time (peewee practice field) I have found wheats (30's 40's 50's) and a silver ring so I know what to expect from here... Well I got the surprise of the year when I popped out this nice 1893 Indian Head Penny! (thought it was going to be a zinc penny) I was ecstatic! I am hunting in a field that is suppose to be 50 to 60 years old and here I found a 117 year old penny! not to mention that I finally broke into the 1800's this year.. (my area isn't that old... established in 1875) so I'm a happy hunter this week...

Next find... I dug down and pulled this silver plated coin purse (its old too I bet) out of the ground... most of the purse part is gone so I am thinking there has to be a coins in this hole! but no such luck... but having the 1893 Indian Head and this old coin purse come out of this spot makes me wonder what was there before... time for some research and defiantly more hunting!

Coin purse definitly looks old. Time to slow down and tune up your machine! Nice finds and keep posted what you find out about the history of the place.

Re: suprised finds... 1893 and looking fine!

What you have is an antique Victorian chain purse frame adorned with cherebs. This purse was popular from the late 1800s through the 1920s. Could yours be in sterling?

Your luck ain`t any better than mine. I also found a chain purse in up state NY a few years ago. Mine was stamped Whiting Co. Can`t remember any more where Whiting co. was located. I gave it to the land owner. The house was built in 1803. It was also missing about half the chain and was also empty, but it sure did get me ta look`in. Ended up with 2 indians, one nice 1820 large cent and a 1799 british half cent, so keep digg`in.

Nice Indian! Keep at it!
Dug one of those purses last summer, it was stuffed into a rock wall, pulled the clasp part first, & was hoping for coins but was not to be, just 100s of star shaped pieces it was made from.
HH

Nice finds Chuck. The pictures are a lot more defined here than the ones you sent my cell. I would keep at that site, and consider what we spoke about on the phone with the SEF COIL.

Good recoveries Chukers :headbang:
