After a day of chores yesterday was champing at the bit to get out today, it was the perfect Spring day, sunshine and blue skies, so we headed off to a previously undetected field, next to the race course. I spent ages following the lead and iron signals, and was eventually rewarded with my first silver Solidino😍!

But first, part of a buckle? (I’m sure I know it’s something else, but can’t place it) pot mend, 2 bits of plate and a pot leg, a cute decorative bit, bobbin shot, piece of something and a bullet, 2 buttons, clay pipe, musket balls, candle stick, chunky lead weights, Jetton, fake silver coin, Himself’s cut hammered, and my solidino ! xx

Mr Woo, decided to help with the find photography… which was actually no help 😂 bless him! xx

Howdy! Great finds as always! I have a dumb question…Folks “across the pond” from us, particularly in England, seem to have never ending access to magical farm fields full of interesting artifacts of all manner. Are these areas predominately in private holding where permission is needed to gain access, or are they open to the general public to detect on? I’m guessing probably a mixture of both but I’m interested in how it works over there. Thanks and keep on posting your treasures! -Timber
Ah thank you xx

Here in the UK, u must have the land owners permission to detect. We are very lucky as we have permission for about 15,000 acres on a private estate.

But as a rule Getting a / any permission is the hardest part of detecting in the UK… The only alternative is to pay and go on arranged digs… xx

It's bearing surface to fit a hole or socket is convoluted instead of smooth.

A rifle/musket rest like Muskateers used had more of ferrule. Like a socketed shovel or rake for instance.

Given the number of pot leg looking pieces that turn up I almost wonder if this piece is a foot for an andiron.
The smooth pin part seems to be broken off. This is not complete.

With our current authoritarian regime moving close to Europe it would not surprise me if "licenses" don't come into play over the next few years. That is the fundamental difference between the ancient Roman civil law of the continent and the even more ancient (in origin) English common law (already in existence as the laws of Molmuntine and the lex Martiana) codified by Alfred the Great.
Roman law says everything is illegal unless you are authorised where as under English common law, everything is fair game unless it is legislated against.
Anyhows....
Nice selection there and that big old buckle you almost forgot is a real keeper.

What is in the budgie photo?
Looks like a mouthpiece for a bugle.

Budgie photo??? 🤔…
Sorry. In my family, a budgie was 2 things:
Originally it referred to parakeets.
Some folks kept pigeons years ago. It became common to use budgie as slang for any bird kept in a cage at home. Sort of a “catch-all term. To my mind set, wild are pigeons and tamed are budgies! 🤷‍♂️
