Sunday's dive finds

Well I wasn't able to get out Sunday, I was pulling Grandpa duties all day. But the boys just sent me a pic of their finds. 3 divers went down and all 3 came back. It was a good day.

Awesome finds!!

Very cool stuff Dave. Does most of it date to the 1850-1900 period?

Most stuff we find dates from the early 1800s to the 2nd WW, after that we most likely would leave it down there unless it has something interesting about it. Halifax was established in 1749 but was used by the french and even the Portuguese before that so there is always the chance of finding something very old in there. It's like a giant trash pit.
One of the guys that went out on Sunday got up this nice olive jar that was dated to the 1600's

And these are some of the older black glass bottles we have found.

This is one reason why I don't mind putting away the detector for the winter, because that's when we bottle dive.

Nice finds once again from the water. Is the collection of bottles a group effort or just what you have in a collection? BTW the grouping of bottles is a really nice for sure.

Hi PJ,
that pick was taken a couple of years ago when we have a get together for a show and tell. These were some of the groups Black glass bottles and date from the early 1700's to mid 1800s.
Here is a pick of some of our gold coin finds from the same night.

Wow....... mind blowing that so many significant relics are laying there just waiting to be found. I am sure there is a great deal of effort that goes into the recovery but to say it fascinates me is putting it lightly. Congrats on some awesome finds. :icon_thumleft:

Incredible! That's it! I'm taking my diving course...you just inspired me!

There is still lots of goodies down there and depending on where you live you could be bringing up great artifacts from water as shallow as 10 ft. There are some legal issues you may have to deal with but if they aren't from a shipwreck then in most cases you can bring them up. Places like Florida have some strange laws regarding the age of an object but I don't think there are any laws like that anywhere in Canada other then in Historical places and Parks Canada areas.
We have to get written permission from the Harbour Master every time we want to dive plus be in constant contact with the Harbour Traffic and have surface to diver communications. The dives are in 80+ ft with low visibility and strong currents and we are diving solo, so it's not for everyone but you can see it's worth the effort.

Diving in 80+ water at this time of the year (water temps the same?) you deserve every find and wishing you more gold and awesome finds. No matter what's down there I prefer the terra firma any day even if it sucks at times. Big congrats on the efforts that goes into one of the hunts as it's really could be scary if one doesn't respect the environment.

Man, those black bottles some of which appear to be Rum Bottles and the Gold coins are awesome! While Gold coins are generally fairly valuable depending upon the Country of origin, where they were minted (the Mints), denominations and conditions, some black Rum Bottles can be very valuable as well. Have you tried to get values on any of the bottles?

The best of both worlds...treasure hunting and scuba diving! :icon_thumright:

Hi Scott, hope all is well with you. I am not sure exactly what that is but I do beleive it may be one half of an egg cup. I have one from a wreck that is similar.

water temp right now @ 80 ft is around the mid 40s to low 50s but by the end of winter it will be in the 30s. I have seen water temp at the surface down to 28*F. I was a salt water slushy.

Hi Frank, yes we have had some value put to them, we are all collectors though and seldom ever sell our finds. (this drives our wives crazy). One of the Zodiacdiver crew has some books on the subject puplished. Bottle prices can be quite surprising and far more valuable then alot of coins.
