I have been hunting with a couple of Tnetters lately. Brooklyn Digger, (Jay), called and told me that another hunter and friend of his was in from Rhode Island.
He was looking for the 3 of us to get together and do a little metal detecting. Jay's buddy's name is Caleb. We decided on a location that Jay and I have nicknamed the Field. It is where an old house stood around 1900. Now it is an open field with about a dozen huge old trees. It has been generous in variety and silver.
Brooklyn digger drew first blood with a Mercury Dime. I picked away at some wheat pennies, a cool keyhole, and a pocket knife. After about 2 hours we had pretty much covered the field and pickings were slim. Caleb and I both had a Model T valve stem cover each. I knew of a location within walking distance that had a strip of grass across the street from some apartment buildings that were built in the 30's and 40's. The tenants would seek the shade of the trees along this strip of grass during the summer. These was pre-air conditioning days.
We picked away at the lawn and I visited a huge tree that I had once nicknamed The Money Tree. Pulled some nice silver out from under that tree back in the day. Well it was Caleb's turn to hit silver here. A mercury dime and wheat penny in close proximity to each other. I pulled a few wheat Pennies and another pocket knife.
We decided on a Pizza break and then a ride over to a nice open field that I once got a nice dime trifecta out of. The remainder of the day was spent digging a few wheat pennies and another small pocket knife. It must have been my day for pocket knives. I did manage to retrieve a Cub Scout Bobcat Pin.
Around 4;30 we decided to call it a day. It was good to get together with people who enjoy this hobby as much as I do.
