My wife is still sick with a cold, so I was able to get out early this morning. Scouted out a big elementary school with ball field and 3 areas of equipment. Hit the grass and one set of the sand equipment.

I prefer bark chips to sand. Either the Garrett doesn't like the sand or people lose less in the sand. Coin count is always a bit low.

But I found a silver plated sandal charm and a charming gold ring. Says "10" and elsewhere "O - P" on the inside of the band. Very, very thin, so I don't think it is plated. The stone is nice and I think it might be topaz or amber. Has that burnt orange color to it.

Total clad: 4 Q (one bent to heck), 2 D, 19 P.

Hope everyone else did at least as well as I did this weekend.

Re: Sunday at shcool yeilds small gold ring.

WTG Sheldius, nice ring..found a ring in the wood chips also at a school this morning I'll probably post later..

Not all wood chip playgrounds are treated equally..some yield tons of coins and jewelry and some not much, but if you frequent them often you'll find some that are just full of treasure.

Yep, they're all right !!!! Don't discard ANY school playgrounds with wood chips or otherwise...or else you may miss this !!! Found this in a local elementary school playground under the swings last Christmas Day.

Checked the stone under the microscope when I was at the office weighing my finds and checking metals. Ring is about .53 grams. Figure about .13 g stone/.4 g 10 KT gold.

There is some pressure fractures at the pointy ends of the stone, and they look conchoidal. Think what a BB does to a glass window or what the edges of obsidian arrow heads look like. I think it is citrine (yellow quartz) and that means it is probably just heated amethyst to bring out the yellow color. Oh well.

HH.
