in kenworthys book ''treasure, signs, symbols, shadow and sun signs '' , he makes reference to a sulfide weed that grows where sulfides { like the type emited from silver in the ground } percolate up through the ground.....this weed only grows where these sulfides are present......does anyone know the proper name of this weed, {not maui wowee or kona gold} or can someone post a picture of it.......thanks..........gldhntr

A) HI, we have a plant in Mexico that has been used that way to locate many Ag deposits. Iit is called "La Mulatress". I am sorry to say that I have never attemped to identiy it. I am in Tucson right now, but will attempt to ID it when I return to Mexico.

That would be cool if there was such a thing. It would at least give you a good starting point if you found some. First I've ever heard of it so I can't help with a name, sorry.

kenworthys book states that this weed grows ONLY where these sulfides percolate up through the soil....silver.,, along with a few other things, produces these sulfides, and if the weeds are present, then it is definantly worth checking out.........any horticulturist out there ?...........gldhntr

Plenty of weeds are more tolerant of sulfides than most, and nearly all of them are found throughout the southwest.
The soil conditions in soil with silver sulfates wouldn't vary much from the other soil conditions from non-silver sulfates.

Some of those weeds go nuts certain years when the conditions are just right for them , giving the illusion it will be like that every year. Could be something was having a good year when he noticed a connection.

Maybe he's on to something in areas of low alkali or in places where the silver ore would be very unusual, but such a plant would grow anywhere in the desert. defiantly an interesting thought.

But...

Way back in youth, I seem to recall silver sulfides changing not the name or origin of the 'weed' but even better, THE SEX!
I had nothing to do with it ,of course, but it's girls only in the weed fields.
